Holy blood pressure, Batman. A fourth story passed up for further consideration this month! This time it's Shimmer doing the bumping. Add that to Apex, Nightfall, and Dark Visions and I'm a mess of nerves.

Good grief. I'm all atwitter over my one shortlist and the normal handful of stuff I expect soon. Can't even imagine what you're going through. Great markets, too. Congrats on knowing so many of your stories are doing so well! Best of luck!!

Guys, does anyone know if Apex sends acknowledgments for submissions still? I'm starting to expect a response of some kind, but when I looked back through my sent folder I realized that I hadn't received my usual "yes we got it". It's been awhile though; have they changed that?

Notes from my last submission there in early Jan say I received an acknowledgement the same day. Did you look through your e-mail to see if you got one you forgot to record?

I just made it to the second round at Waylines at 8 days. My fingers crossed on this one. They're such a cool new market and I'd love to have my work displayed there. Add that to my long standing 95-day second round bump at Midnight Echo.

Hey, we're in the same boat! A story of mine just got bumped into the second round too :). Maybe we'll get to be ToC mates.

Sai, were you bumped at W@ylines or Midnight Ech0? I'm second round at W@ylines. While I'd like to feel optimistic about it, I did see them advertising recently for slush readers. My guess is that there will be more bumps now if the editors aren't doing all the reading. Still, nice of them to let people know when a story has been bumped and always a good feeling to make second round. I read one of their first issue stories last night and watched one of the videos - liked both.

It was Waylines, so I guess that makes 3 of us :). Good luck!

Since the Waylines EICs have been in the industry before, I was pretty sure they had jumped to a volunteer slushy system. I'm still flattered for the bump, though, because that means someone really liked it. Best of luck Sai and Eliza!

New Engl@and Review: 61

Not expecting much to come of these, but hope does indeed spring eternal. ;) At least I'm "percolating" at C Obscura. That's something, I guess.

Does anyone know the process for bumps over at Apex? Do they usually send an email if your story has been passed up or is it possible that some slushies might not?

I think some slushies don't notify you of a bump. Because I got one response that was personal (a while back) from Ms. Thomas but there was no second round notice before the rejection.

All I know is I was notified of the last two bumps I've gotten, each from a different slush reader, both fairly recent.

They're known for being all over the place with their response times. But hopefully you're the exception!

Lost two of my middlers to rejections last night, but thanks to a super-quick crit from resident Penumbra specialist, Marz, said emag put me through to the final round for the lost issue. Now comes the 10 million year wait...

Glad you found it useful, Project!

Congrats, JW! Here's hoping for an AW bonanza at Waylines.

Regarding Apex, I had a response from Ms. Thomas once after an inordinate amount of time (well beyond most first round rejections). I assumed it was bumped without notice, but I've heard rumors she sometimes dips into the slush. Can't say for sure; only useful witness is from the editor's mouth. Either way, it works out the same only with less obstacles to the prize!
