Cora!

I'll have to think about your questions, but there's something I would like to see more of. Horror novels where the romantic interest of a monster-if it's given one that is- knows the monster is a monster. A woman or man knowing they're dating a killer right from the start, and embracing or at least comming to terms with it. Maybe actually helping the monster kill as a way of bonding. Their version of a date.

I'm not talking about declawed and defanged monsters, but ones where they're still firmly evil. A play on, how can someone love a serial killer? Well, what if that "serial" killer was really a werewolf and their lover knew, hid bodies as needed, or participated in fullmoon hunts with them, even going so far as to become a killer themselves?

Besides improper grammar and whatnots, what irks you guys when you read? Is there a particular profession that you are absolutely tired of, that you believe has been overused/misrepresented? A particular type of character?
Private detectives/investigators. Demon hunters/slayers.

Hell yes! The market got flooded with it.

Actually, Greg wrote a short story with a detective a few years ago that was quite good. I liked his character. I believe he said that character appeared in a few short stories of his, but I'll wait until he weighs in. Either way, I liked it.

So, after a month of sick from my medications, I'm finally feeling better and ready to get back on the horse with my writing.

So far, all I've found is a single leg, I know it's probably asking a lot for a whole horse around here, but I figure if I can at least find enough pieces to make a whole one, I should be good to go. Anyone seen any more bits around?

Yup, Quentin Dallas.

He starred in the stories "The Light At The End Of The Tunnel", "Night On A Boat", and "Any Minute Now". He'll also be in the stories "The Midnight Box" and at 2 or 3 more before too much longer when I decide to sit down and finish them.

He's a great character with a lot of stories left to tell.

I used to read the Anita Blake Vampire hunter series, and that dabbles with it a bit, but I stopped reading after awhile because the books became straight porn with very little plot.... I think, I don't remember because of all the sex that was happening. Everyone was doing everyone, sometimes all at the same time. Sorry about murdering your post with my cut and paste job. It doesn't count, but one of the seasons of Dexter had a storyline when he dated a killer... it didn't end well.

No smacking needed. I think people are so drawn to detectives/military in writing because for most of us, we don't really know a lot of them in real life, so it's fun to make up these characters... except that also what bugs me about the book I'm reading with all the ex military characters. I've been a spouse for a thousand years now and 90% of my family have and/or are still serving at this moment. So when I read lines like (and I'm paraphrasing) "The super good guy became a master sergeant in two years because he was just what the super secret military team was looking for: uncaring, unattached, and as lethal as a jungle cat." :gone:

Yea, I would prefer something that does more than dabbles with it. Where it's a true part of the plot instead of being tacked on just because, too often people just dabble with it. A real horror romance. Not paranormal romance, because what's in my brain can include a serial killer scenario and still actually be a horror romance type story. But a horror novel where the romance between two killers or a killer and "normal" person is just as intregral as the horror aspect of things.

You know what I mean, where horror and romance are two tightly woven main plots instead of one being a side plot.

Yea, I would through that book across the room or delete it if it was on my nook.

Don't get me wrong, I will still read PI or demon hunter stories. :D I just find myself wishing that they could be or do something different instead sometimes. Just for a little variety.

I think PIs are so popular because often times to solve the mystery/crime/problem etc. you have to have an MC who is inquisitive and has motivation to dig deep into things. Also to have the resources and connections and experience to do so. So the occupation suits telling a story pretty well. I think that's why you see that one so often.

Reading Red Dragon after finishing an amazing scifi book last night. The first in the Hannibal Lecter series seems very promising, I expect to enjoy it.

ETA: Progress has been made on my vampire novel, Katherine. Well, just on the outline actually, but I'm counting it. I can't write and complete a story without an outline. Anyway.....moving on, the first part of my two teered outline is complete. I still have to do the second part of the outline, because doing both parts is what works best for me, but that won't be so bad now that part one is done. I hope to finish part two sometime this weekend.

Those characters whose personality/character is clearly defined through three quarters of the book and then at the last minute they do something or a series of something's so completely and thoroughly out of character you're suspicious of a major editing snafu, like the introduction of another character with the same name..

Books fly for this.

I missed you, do I count?

Lillith, I'm back on my phone and quoting is hard but I wanted to say that I can't throw the book. It's a series I've been reading off and on for the past few years and it's the very last book. Whatever I have that's mentally wrong with me will force me to wonder about the ending for the rest of my life. It'll consume my every waking moment, despite the fact just reading the book is giving me a headache.

You haven't been at work for a week, Ted. It's the probes. You've got to get rid of the probes. They're messing with your reality.

I remember almost all of my dreams, they're quite vivid actually. I even remember dreams I had from when I was just a wee dragon.
