Giselle,
Yes, you need to cancel your contract first. I'd recommend doing that immediately. Then start seaching for another agent. Some good resources for that: Everything You Wanted to Know About Agents; Writer Beware (especially see "The Safest Way to Search for an Agent); Preditors and Editors; and the AAR. The Index sticky'd to the top of the BABC page is also very useful.

Also, while you're querying other agents, be writing your next book. Good luck.

You absolutely have to cancel that contract, and as soon as possible.

Otherwise they could show up with their hands out for 15% after you sell the book yourself. Nor will you be able to get a legitimate agent while you're still under contract with another agen.

You don't want any confusion over who represents a book.

Writers Literary Agency

There's a new scam in town: Writers Literary Agency & Marketing Company. They've supposedly "acquired" The Literary Agency Group (home of Sydra Techniques/ST Literary Agency/Stylus Literary Agency/The New York Literary Agency/Christian Literary Agency/Childrens Literary Agency/Poets Literary Agency/The Screenplay Agency).

Same cast of characters, same lack of sales, same fraud.
