If an agent who has your partial emails you a note saying that he'll respond in a few weeks and asking you to let him know if other agents request materials, should you respond? Tell him thanks and you look forward to hearing from him? Tell him that you're just starting the query process and will let him know if others request? Or is that just unnecessarily clogging up his inbox?

Of course, agents are busy but they're not THAT busy. If you've had positive correspondence like that from an agent you are absolutely okay to send a short thank-you note.

Just say thank you, and you'll be sure to let him know if anything comes up. That's it, don't act TOO grateful, just keep it short and sweet.

Responding with something short will let the agent know you got their message. Unless they ended it with NNTR (no need to respond) or something like that.
