Heat. Urgh. I hates it!

I really hate it when you all but evaporate during the day and the news tries to tell you the max was 32 that day.

Yeah. In my FRIDGE maybe!:tongue

I think writing short is better MM - far better to breed extra darlings than put existing ones to sleep, don't you agree?

I haz a conundrum.

Outlining was a great idea, and the structure is tight. But it's almost too tight. Extra scenes have no where to go. Hmph. I think I can squeeze the busking scene in, but the others I had planned - not going to work.

Glad I read it before writing them now, that's for sure.

So now I must slow bits down by playing with what I have. Doable, but annoying. Ah, the joys of writing, hey?

The good news is the sex scene I thought was awful turned out to be pretty decent. A few minor tweaks (boom tish) is all I need to do.

There's a couple of overly graphic terms that had me scratching my head (and reaching for the red pen) though. I must have written it after a stint in the bordello. :tongue

I try not to be too explicit. If you're using medical terms, chances are you've crossed the 'sexy' line, IMO!

I'll def. be cutting bits here and there, it can probably be tightened. I was hoping for 100k anyway, so it's no far off what I originally was aiming at.

But it's toooooo hot to concentrate today. I need to make a list of all the things I need to do in the last round of edits, and then start on it next week. Because I edit at work, I need a very specific list so that I can pick a small job or a large job depending on how much time I have available.

It's not that hot here for a change. A nice cool day after a week of high temperatures. And there's a decent breeze too.

But that has me confused.

1. Physics taught me that friction causes heat.
2. Wind is air particles moving at speed, causing friction between themselves and everything they bump into.
3. So why does wind cool you down? Surely it should heat you up with all the friction? Surely the wind itself should be hot because of all the air bumping into other bits of air?

Right?

*confused*

And if your using erotica terms - you've crossed the line for UF lol!

I was like - whoa! How did those get in there, I have a PNWM project for that behaviour.;)

I't's stuck at around 90k ish, and I'm looking to hit at least 100000 to so I should be right. I mean it could go over, but I think for an UF 100,000 seems like a good word count.n That is, of course if it's UF.

I might end up reworking the time line a little so I can stick a few scenes in here and there. More faeries popping up in more places are needed I think.

Plus I need to show more of the city's downward spiral. But as far as a first draft goes - I'm stoked. The plotline is tight, the characters are 3d and it's packed with action. Gotta be happy with that.:)

Soooo, have you picked your crit-bit yet?

lol Cliff, I have no idea. Science is not my strong point, even though I did a science degree...

Luna, NO I HAVENT AAHHHH

I don't know. I'm kind of egocentric, so I want to pick something i think is quite GOOD, but then... if it's already good in my eyes then there's not much point being critted on it, ya know? But then I don't want to give you guys a piece of junk and then be like, yeah, so. I'm hoping to get published one day! totes going to happen! and everyone will secretly be thinking, 'she hasn't got a snowball's chance in hell'

Soooo yeah. Rambling. No idea.

I finished my audiobook! EEK excitement city. My cover is too cute. It's very girly, but then my book is vamp lite, so they can just suck it up. Besides, it's only for me, when it's on my iphone. It loooks awesome! I did all the photo manipulation myself!

I changed my avatar to the lips I manipulated, originally it was just a standard mouth. You like?

And I don't think erotica terms cross the line of UF. Most UF has a lot of sex. What constitutes erotica terms? I wanna know if I've crossed the line!

I dunno, really, but when I saw cock, pussy and shaft I gasped and used the red pen lol! I figure it can be less explicit and have more effect in the mainstream stuff. But that's just me. Also the whole thing with Gan gets icky enough as it is. Graphic words = tipping it over the edge IMO.

As for the crit bit - you're talking to someone who sent in a total first draft lol! So I can't help you there. Mind you, it was that or nuthin, so I had no choice.

I LOVE the lips. I suck so badly at photoshop - it's scary. I bought a tablet thinking it would improve my skills and it did - the very few number of times I used it that is. 'The Book' has consumed my life to the exclusion of most other things I'm afraid. I'd love to finish the drawing of Gan I started... but I'm already looking ahead working out the outline for books 2 & 3 ... so not much chance. Oh and it has a title *By Glyph and Iron* Because they use both extensively to battle the baddies.;)

@Cliff - the reason wind cools you down is because the passing of the air evaporates moisture from your skin. Which lowers your surface temperature, which cools the blood in the capillaries close to the surface.

It's also why fans are better at cooling when they are higher powered. *glares at contemptibly underpowered fan in front of me*

LunaFancy - answering the deeper questions of life.

I'll be here all day.;)

lol, Luna.

I never, ever mention cocks or pussies, haha!

I stick to vague descriptions of bodily parts. There's loads of arching and thrusting, I find.

I don't have a tablet, I don't think I'd use it enough, but I do love messing around with photoshop. Even nice girls need fangs. I'm so tired of red lips and fangs. Em might wear red lipstick sometimes, but she owns other colours. So ner ner ner. :D

See - way too much playing with erotica for me!

*slaps hand* Bad LunaFancy. Bad. :D I nearly died when I read it.lol!

I'm good at the simple answers Cliff... maybe that says something about me?

Oh get a tablet - they are way cool! And you'll be amzed at how much easier manipulation becomes. I got mine off ebay for like 75 bucks plus postage. I used it to change the hair colour of the image I nabbed for Gan. It was so much easier to get it right with the pen. I also did sketch with it - too easy.

What I'd like to do is use it for original digital art. But that would take time I just don't have right now.

I have mulled over what i want to do with the final chapter and am about to launch into it. Hooray! Plus there's two more scenes I really want to squeeze in. I figure I'll write them then work out how to fiddle the timeline after.

Not that I'm putting that off or anything ...

I'll have to think about that.. It'd end up being the biggest time suck in the history of time.

I should have done graphic arts at school, I've always really enjoyed playing around with images.

gawd, the whole house is siesta-ing. Just checked out my editing, there's no sex scenes until chapter 16.

The second book has some before the end of the first chapter!

ahh good times. I'm off for a nap of my own. What are you lot up to? still dying in the heat? I did go snorkelling this morning, does that count me in as having a life?

I've just recorded song 3. It clocked in at around 6 minutes, 31 seconds. Yikes!

It's only 1 word longer than song 2, and song 2 was 4 minutes 19 seconds...

I don't know quite how that works...

I watched a doco on faeries, puttered around in one of my faerie texts, nutted out the ending to the novel about faeries then sat down to write it.

LunaFancy=No visible life signs at all.

Unless the novel counts as a life???

Some definitions:

A life is something that other people would say is interesting about you.
Most people are interested in boring crap anyway.
Thus, the easiest way to have a life is to avoid most people.

:)

(Yes, I just came up with that. Copyright!)

Well it is rather a quotable quote. :)

So, who's aiming to hit Angry Robot up in March? I reckon I might be able to swing it myself.

But then I read in the SFF forum that they seem to have an expectation of an internet presence as in a blog. Now, while i would of course scramble to get that sort of thing up and running after I sold the book, it appears they expect it of aspiring writers too.

WTF? I mean, really, what is the point? Who wants to read me blathering on about my lack of life (apart from you guys who, of course find my blather riveting ;)) or something along those lines?

So if we must engage in such folly - what the hell does one blog about? I mean, I suppose I have a wide range of interests, but it seems like an awful lot of time consuming effort for someone who really doesn't give a rats about web presence.

I'd happily go on and on about the book if people were reading it, but in the absence of published work - meh.

Any ideas?

I was just subjected to an aerial assault by a 10cm grasshopper on the way back from the stables. If I had a blog I could share that with the world lol!

I just don't see why an unpublished writer needs a blog to be noticed by them, I guess. Weird. I kinda thought that's what the submission was for.:tongue

Another thing I shall concern myself with after I finish.

How about you guys? Think you'll be ready?

I hear you, and I'll still enter the soul destroying game of agent hunting.

But I figure, what the hell - it can sit in their To Be Read pile while I am. They are buying the rights to UK,US and Aus, which sounds promising.

Plus it gives me a deadline. End of March. Which sounds good, because i don't want to be rehashing this for a year and a day. I haz other things to move on to.

Like the unfinished smut.:D

Am revising ch1 as we speak.:)

Oh and I haz a 'Getting of a Life Goal'. To actually make it to a writers group meeting next month. Vision Writers (spec fic) has their first meeting tomorrow, but screw that. Too hot to be social.

March will be more seasonable, I'll go to the next one. I shall be a hermit no more after that. Skeery.

my goal was always march too. I could have been ready before that but I won't be. I wanted 'marinating' time. Anyway, I'll probably get shut down, lol.

I think I'm satisfied with the crit circle for now, I don't need to be social :)

I have a dream ... where I have managed to gather a small group of fabulously interesting RL spec fic writer friends and we meet socially and drink coffee and brainstorm and all sorts of wondrous things like that.;)

I doubt it will ever be realised, but hey, I have been hermiting away for over 18 months now. I need to get out occasionally. And seeing as I will have to be getting another job soon, I'd like to have interesting flesh people to talk to as well.

Socialising with job people invariably makes me want to run a hot bath and get out the razor blades. :evil
