how many entries so far?
who's writing for this?
me, I've roughly outlined, which just means I'm still a maybe.
Derek said he'd gotten several so far.

I'm writing one. I've have problems (as always) with the word count. I would begin a story and before I got started good it was half-way to the word limit and I would have to discard the idea and start over. I think I've finally come up with something I can keep within 2000 words (maybe). I might have a bit more tell than show in places. ;-)

I meant to finish the story tonight, but I still have to write the ending.

I have a question. One of the stories I'd like to submit is an "As Told To My Wife." Is that permissable? Thanks.
I'm not sure I completely understand your question.

I think you're asking if you can rewrite a story you've heard and enter it. As long as you actually write the story you enter, it's acceptable. It has to be your own work, in other words.

For example, if I went to the vet and they told me a funny story about a cat who thought he was a dog, I could come home and write a story about it and enter it in the contest.

Does that answer your question?

The contest actually got me off my butt to write something I'd been (ahem) sitting on for some time :D
That's exactly why I got this thing started. Sometimes just having a little incentive and a deadline can get people writing.

Hi Alleycat,

Sorry for not being too clear. The story in question is non-fiction, my husband's experience that I wrote up in 1st person, hence "as told to my wife."

That would be acceptable, I think. Your husband might have told the story, but you're the one who is actually putting the story to paper (so to speak).

We didn't really deal with it in the rules, but I suppose it would even be acceptable if two people wanted to collaborate on a story. We just want the stories to be the entrant's own work.

Basically, if you could take the story you've written and submit it to a traditional publisher, then it would be okay to enter it in this contest.

Just FYI since everyone's probably wondering, I must have received 20+ entries so far.

Being n00b and all I'm probably just not very good at using this forum yet, so bear with me.

I entered myself with something odd, and am anxious to see what others have entered, and now, the deadline met and what not, I was wondering where the contestants will be posted, I can't seem to find it.

Or am I just lacking patience? - wouldn't be a first.

Just be a little more patient. Derek will post the entries soon in Share Your Work.

Good luck with your entry.

Just wondering. 20:28 here in England. What time would it be right now for PST time?

I tried to look it up on google, but it was a little confusing :p

yawn... in da land of the terminally bored.
The deadline is through the 15th, right. Then I would think, that participants would have until 23:59PST to submit.

I'll bet that he starts posting sometime tomorrow on the 16thPST.

Could be wrong, though.

I didn't think about it at the time I originally posted, but the US changed over to Daylight Savings Time (DST) last weekend.

Because of this, 6:00 PST would actually be 7:00 now because we moved our clocks in the US an hour forward.

Let's just say the contest ends at 6:00 PST or 7:00 PDT (the same actual time).

England (GMT) is eight hours ahead of the US Pacific Time. I have no idea whether England is on DST now (I don't believe it is, but I'm not sure). 6:00 pm PST Sunday would be 2:00 am GMT Monday.

Is everyone okay with this?

That might be why I found it a little confusing :D.

Thank you.

Hmm. I still have time to write something else that's been swimming in my head for a few days now.

I just sent my entry into to Derek, so his inbox is now even more crowded.

Just a friendly bump to remind people that tonight is the deadline.
