Just make sure to haul the ideas out of the notebook from time to time.
So that you don't end up like me. I've literally got things in the notebook from over 10 years ago. Of course, I like to think these things are just waiting for the right moment/story.
But the truth is I kind of forget about them until I flip through the pages again
THIS.I love notecards, even more. It sounds dumb, but they're just big enough for that three minute writing spree while waiting in line, and small enough you won't feel bad for filling it.
Well, they're a little neater to keep track of. Easier than my previous method: ziploc bags full of scribbles on the backs of receipts, church offering envelopes, napkins and flyers the kids bring home in their backpacks.I never even thought about note cards for actual scribbling. I've used them to plot, but never quite like that.
I haven't had any of those days lately. Just one question, Soapy: You stopped writing a dystopian short because of ass sucking?Oh--I LOVE those days, Ted. When you just wake with all that writing enthusiasm! Grab it. Exploit it.
I've had too few of those days lately. Yesterday was a disaster. I worked and worked on a dystopian short that ended up just sucking ass too much to go any further with it. Jumped ship for a little contemporary fantasy piece and was a *little* happier.
Today I have a sick kid and loooong periods of time at the doctor's office. Joy. Then there's errands and chores for most of the rest of the day. More joy.
Tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll get more done.
