I just wanted to pitch in with everybody else and say how wonderful and professional the agents at FP are. I have had delightful exchanges with them and, Ms. Reid, I'm a huge fan of your blog and learned tons from it, and I know it's extra time you put into it, so THANK YOU.

It sure is heartwarming to see that we've all come together to cheer and praise you guys. At the same time, I feel the need to cheer and praise my fellow writers. Because THIS right here is what we are. Hard working gals and guys that do their homework before querying, religiously follow submission guidelines, and chew on their nails anxiously waiting for that reply. We are professionals, and behave as such, and it saddens me that only the "bad" ones get the spotlight. Because truly, WE are the majority, not them. We've all heard the one tree fall, because it made a BIG noise. Now, let's not forget the forest that's silently growing.

There. I've posted. Now off to repent....

Just for the sake of clarity: I'm referring to what happened BEFORE post 742...

New Children's Book Specialist at FinePrint Lit!

Just a heads up to all of you that FinePrint has brought aboard a new agent, Marissa Walsh, as a children's book specialist.

Full announcement and details about what she's looking for here.

All the best.

Awww! I was all excited, and then I saw the "no fantasy" bit. Good luck to the rest of you!

Okay, so, yesterday at Grub St's Muse conference, one of the sessions I sat in on had Stephany Evans on a panel. The thing was, not only was she really funny and scary smart but she BROUGHT FREE BOOKS!!!!!

It was rather like offering junkies free drugs. *sniff* She has my undying affection now.

(She claimed Janet Reid suggested it. :) Can I say how nice that was for a shark to do, because...it was free books. FREE. BOOKS. )

Omg. Free books.

Free, awesome, Fineprint client books.

Freeeeeeee boooooookkkkkkssssss.

Sorry. Anyway, if one were to put aside the rather obvious fact my affections are easily bought, I just wanted to say, I was impressed and I loved how she talked us through not just publishing terms, etc. but also how she works with her clients, her decision-processes, esp for revising and submitting while keeping the market in mind, and Fineprint in general. Very illuminating.

*sigh* That and she brought free books.

So, Twizzle, what would you say was one of the best things about Stephany's presence on the panel; not sure I'm clear on that... ;)

I'm shallow, aren't I?

Seriously, had I known agents would do that, I would have become like some conference groupie, wandering around the country, conference to conference, just sitting outside seminar rooms panhandling for books...

May I have a book, sir?

Please?

I didn't see you, Shady, or Courtney-I only have the Kindle versions of both of you, so I was hoping. Doesn't mean you weren't there, though. Imagine someone yelling out "FREE BOOKS!" in a room full of book addicts (sends delicious chills down one's spine, doesn't it?) , and um, yeah. We were toward the back of the room, too, so it was hard to hear as she yelled out titles. I saw her hold up a running book, a paranormal romance, and a few others. But the vultures, they were quick on the draw.

On a serious note, though-it was a brilliant idea. Just brilliant.

"Like a rock concert for readers, they rushed the stage, trampling the weak and the indecisive." LOL

I'd have been one of the ones foaming at the mouth, hand out, happy for any fiction book for age 15 or older.

Had something odd happen today. About a month ago, I received a rejection on a query. Today I received a different rejection on the same query. The first was actually a normal message, though this one just said, "Not for us" in the subject line."

It was kind of strange, and I assume someone just made a mistake, but that's definitely a first.

Yeah, my guess is you just didn't get moved out of the queue the first time, Kaitie, so you got a bonus pass. Sorry 'bout that.

My record is three from the same query (different agency). The first two were a few months apart, and then a few days after the second arrived, along came a third. It almost felt like a break-up when they stopped rejecting my query.

Haha, glad to know I'm not the only one. It was sorta weird. Though hey, I just realized that my rejection of the day didn't really count since I'd gotten it before! That puts the request I got up one instead of evening out. ;)

Does anyone know where I can find Suzie Townsend's email address on the FinePrint Lit website? I found it on the Guide To Literary Agents website, but am kind-of on the fence about using it. I'd just feel a lot better if I found it on the agency's website xD

Click on the red "Contact Us" tab at the top right side of each page. She's listed with all the other agents & their email addresses.

Actually, Suzie and Marissa haven't yet been added to the website. We're in the process of updating the website now. But you can reach her at [email protected].

Cheers!

Quoting for truth. I love Brendan and Fineprint, but they can both take care of themselves, and people who have issues deserve to be able to voice them.

Yes! Agreed.

I'd like to say that Brendan was completely efficient in responding to me with a manuscript he had requested off of a brief synopsis I had on my website. I already had it out with another agent at Fineprint, so he told me to send it along if the other agent passed on my material. After he left for the editor position, he emailed me to let me know and told me to keep him in mind for my books. I really appreciated his kindness and sincerity. I'm sure that anyone who had their MS out with him is in good hands w/ another Fineprint agent.

Haha, I had two rejections from Colleen once on the same query. The second said she had had problems with her e-mail so she was going through them again and sorry if it was a mistake. And then, because I entered the same query in a contest she held, she didn't choose it, I always joke that she rejected me three times.

Oh...now you're making me look again...I swear I saw Suzie's email address yesterday....and...yes...both Suzie & Marissa are on the "Contact Us" list with their email addresses. However, they're not on the "About the Agents" list. :)
