Congrats to LRB Jr.! And lucky thing for Sweetboy that he's next door to LRB.

(((Kiahanna))) It situations like this, just keep documenting, especially if you feel any retaliation. Sometimes it does get worse before it gets better. (((hugs))))

Kia - Oh she will definitely try to punish you for whatever the boss told her. But document that too. It'll get worse before it gets better, but all she's doing is shooting herself in the foot.

I really don't know if I can wait long enough for that. Things were bad before, but now they're unbearable. Co-workers that I thought were friendly toward me now won't speak to me. They just look at me with dead eyes and glare. My boss is livid, probably because I went above her head and told the Big Boss what was really going on.

I'm so stressed I can't even think..

Hey, shouldn't this be hung on a wall, or something? I hurt my toe.

Kia, seconding Tas. Document it all. And if she treats you worse, complain again: retaliatory action following a complaint is something any smart manager knows to take seriously.

It is going to suck, but hang in there. :Hug2:

Woohoo, shiny new thread! :e2bouncey

Yay for LRB daughter!

(((Kiahanna))) What everyone else said. Keep documenting. Doing the right thing can suck, but hang in there.

Firedrake made my day and she doesn't even know it.

Maryn, with a hearty Ole!

Whut? What did I do?

((((Kiahanna)))), definitely document absolutely everything.

Kimmi, hooray on the scholarship and good luck with the ever growing menagerie. I'm really glad you've taken that dear dog under your wing. I saw the pic on Twitter. He looks so happy and grateful. If I lived in your neck of the woods, I would be more than happy to take him off your hands.

I feel like I officially belong here in Purgatory now that's I've witnessed a thread change.

Kia, that's rough, I'm so sorry. I think you're doing the right thing by documenting and reporting everything. But now the big boss is aware of things, so I hope they get better. Big boss should know to look out for retaliatory behavior now that you've complained. Hang in there and keep fighting for yourself and your sanity.

may, yay for official! =D

puglets, have you heard of The Legend of Melusine?

the editor that passed said my book reminded
her of it. i hadn't been aware of the myth but
looked it up. fascinating! a half serpent type
(also referred to before as succubus) within
european lore. i mean there is a lot of animosity
toward snakes thanks to the bible, but very
interesting to see it here too.

sometimes she is a mermaid. but there
are definitely paintings of her as half snake.
cool!

I've definitely heard of her.
There's a wonderful historical novel by one of my favourite authors, linky here where Melusine features. If you ever get a chance to read this book, do. It's just gorgeous.

she only is in serpent form on saturdays
and warned her husband never to go into
the room she is in. but he pulls a Blue Beard
and finds her in the bath as half snake!

fire, thanks so much for the book link. definitely
looking into it.

Kihanna, I have nothing to offer that anyone else already hasn't, but I'll give you a fistbump for the insane boss/coworkers club. Hang in there.

I know of Melusine mostly through one of my all-time favorite novels, Possession by AS Byatt. A must read literary mystery romance!

I'm sort of vaguely familiar with that legend. I haven't read either the book fire or kellion recommended. Adding both to my GR list!

I recently read Winters0n's The Pass!on, and so now all I want to read is lovely, lyrical fairy-tale style HF. I'd try to write my own version, but I'm not nearly that talented (yet?).

Oooh, lovely new books to read. :)

May, do you read Patricia McKillip? She's my gold standard for lyrical fairy-tale fantasy.

i admit i am not a huge fan of
fairy tales or retellings. lyrical and
lush i need to be in the mood for.

my problem while reading is if
the prose (no matter how beautiful)
distracts me from the story itself.
or goes on for a bit. (the problem i
had with some of robin mc's books.)

but it's all a matter of taste and mood!

It's definitely a matter of mood, for me. I don't necessarily enjoy fairy tale retellings, unless it's something I'm not super-familiar with or is done in a way that changes my mind about the fairy tale. (Like, if I hated it for being misogynist or something.) I loved The Pass!on because it felt like a fairy tale without being a fairy tale, if that makes sense. And I just adored Gillian Bradshaw's The W0lf Hunt because I didn't know about the French werewolf story.

I'm with you on the prose. If it's distracting or feels like the author is just showing off (like if I need to get a dictionary every other page), no matter how beautiful it is, I get frustrated.

Lord, there are so many...

Her Riddlemaster of Hed series is something I re-read every year or so, it's beautiful and epic and a bit wrenching at times. Other than that my favorites are The Book of Atrix Wolfe, Alphabet of Thorn, Song for the Basilisk, Winter Rose, and --

Oh hell, I love all of them. I can't pick.

Another absolute favourite of mine is this one by Peter S Beagle . Also, 'The Last Unicorn' is one of the loveliest, most wistful stories I've ever read.
