Hi,

I have been thinking about this question for quite some time.

Why post in aw chapbook when you can get feedback from poetry critique?

Regards,

jaus

I've used it once or twice just to get something off my chest, like the night my brother died. Obviously wasn't interested in receiving critique for a wound so raw.
Equally I realise it's not what the area is designed for, so I'll take your question as a reminder to go back and remove it. Thanx.

Now re. cheese:

Welsh Rarebit

Take an enamelled metal or heatproof plate,
Slice some onion for a bed,
Rest some sliced cheddar cheese on top,
Pop it under the grill and toast till golden.
Smother with Worcestershire sauce (I know you can get this in the States but even better, use HP brown sauce)

Some cook it on toast but I prefer sliced, fresh crusty bread to mop it up with.
If really hungry, crack an egg on top to cook when the cheese starts to melt...it's lush!

AW. A very nice place!
... and there are also peeps like me who merely want to read and enjoy a poem without feeling required to offer a critique. Sure you can do that in the SYW forum, but there is still the feeling you should say something. With the chapbook you can just enjoy the poems AWer's post. So it is a good option, imo, especially for those like me who enjoy poetry but aren't poets themselves and don't have much to say on the subject as such.

A dark, evil place.
For the record, a few slices of candied crab apple on top of the cheese turn an otherwise mundane sandwich into a gourmet treat.

The bread is the bread,
pick a fine-ass bread
that'll stand up to the heat
with a hearty texture
that keeps its own counsel.

The cheese is the cheese --
pick a smooth-jazz cheese --
not too self-conscious
or shallow, but humbled
to submit to molten joy.

Oh, pick not the pepperjack --
a colby or monterey, fine --
but the pepperjack is death
and venom, raging
to steal your breath away.

Sing it, sister.

typically speaking, i think a poet looking to workshop a poem has the burden of specifying the elements they feel are in flux. if they ask if a rhyme scheme works, if the form suits the subject matter, if the pacing is effective, etc, i feel far more comfortable addressing those questions.

in my opinion, a poem posted in critique without further comment defaults to an implicit "what do you think?" and responses to that can range from an holistic assessment to a detailed critique is there are glaring problem areas.

all too often, again in my opinion, what passes for critique is really "how i would write it," which is rarely helpful.

How about quiet, unassuming PMs? Subtle, with a hint of chocolate?

This conversation went in multiple probable pathways simultaneously. In any dimensional expression, your advice is excellent. :)

I'm impressed! No reported posts, no nastygrams waiting for me this morning, (though I sent a whiny PM or two, myself.)

I have a few things to do, but will be back in a bit to add some opinion to the pile.

Happy Sunday.

I'm still confused.

Where do I get the booklets for the green stamps? Or may I simply post them in a spiral notebook?

while you can collect them in a spiral notebook, the official booklets have gridded outlines that allow for more convenient and accurate counting, and the last thing you want is controversy when the stock of fry-daddys is running low.

better to request them. i think from mac.

I had a ham and cheese melt for lunch today. Really wished I had some pepper jack for it, but melted cheese is never a bad thing.

Also, I do intend to continue the other, real conversation. I just have to watch Little Stew play football first. Go Bulldogs!

Carry on.

I should interrupt this thread to remind people that grilled cheese and bluegrass don't mix. You have been warned, Stew!

Wait, is that bluegrass or red river? I forget.
