Mike Nichols, Oscar- and Tony-winning director, husband of Diane Sawyer, has died.

He won Oscars for The Graduate, Working Girl, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Tonys for a lot of stuff, including directing the Death of a Salesman revival, but he directed tons of classic films and Broadway productions. Was also a writer and early comic.

Small story here, breaking.

I'm sad to hear this. I loved all the films of his that I've seen.

And of course The Graduate is a classic.

Yeah, The Graduate is a classic.

But I think Working Girl still holds up as well. That was some seriously awesome directing. His best by far imo. Should have beat Rain Man for Best Director that year.

Godspeed, Mike.

I'm going to go listen to some of the comedy routines he recorded with Elaine May back in the Beat Generation days.
I saw him and Elaine May in an off Broadway show when I was a teenager, back when he was only known as a rising comic.

A lot of performers that I grew up with, so to speak, are passing. They were terrific live.

I was reminded how good Nichols and May were together just yesterday, researching something which led me to 1970s TV commercials for Jax beer. They provided the voices for animated ads which have become classics.

Thanks for entertaining so many so well, Mr. Nichols.
