I'm just here to party.

The FAQ suggests an introductory post. I could tell you all about my novel, but instead, let's go with something else.

I've realized recently that writing a book is sort of like hosting a party. The first time I hosted a big party, I was nervous. I had all of the thoughts below:

  • Did enough invites go out? (Advertising )
  • I hope people will come! (Marketing)
  • How should I space out the snacks/drinks/desserts to make everyone's enjoyment last the longest? (Pacing)
  • If I cater to one group of friends, will it offend a different group of friends? (Audience)
Now I know that when planning a party, you can fret and overprepare. But no matter what, on the day of the party, release your cares to the winds. Open your doors wide, greet the guests, and let the chips fall where they may. (poker chips, not potato chips.)

That's why I've joined this forum. I'm about to host my first party, I'm nervous, and I want insight from people who have held great parties in the past.

Well, my party's just a small get together, but gaining steam as the night wears on. I'm hoping it can turn into a festive gala before too long, and hopefully without anyone waking up unconscious on the lawn. (Damn, I think I've carried this metaphor too far... and I can't get out of it!)

On the contrary, I appreciate you going with the metaphor. :)

[Maryn reels in.] Does this freakin' party have a free bar?

Maryn, not really drunk at 10 in the morning

Hi!
I heard there was a party going on in here.
I brought beer. And cake.
I wasn't sure what kind of a party it was.

Welcome, from a fellow newbie.

Dude, you best be careful promising free puppies, or I'll be holding you to that next crit group. :D Welcome to the cooler! Come by the Sci-fi/Fantasy Cantina/chat thread sometime.
