Hello fellow writers. Are there any publishers in the US who do manga publishing? Like a good publisher that someone has actually used? I have decided I am going to finally do this and actually try and finish one, but I want it to be in manga style. So I was just wondering if anyone knew of a publisher, or publishers? Thank you!!

Here's a list of publishers I know of that have manga or "mangaish" -- I declare that a real word! -- titles. Keep in mind, I don't think any of these publishers pay advances. The exception is if they hire you as a freelancer for one of their IPs.

  • Archaia publishes Mouseguard and the webcomic Gunnerkrigg Court and currently accepts submissions.

  • Antarctic Press is manga friendly and also currently accepts submissions.

  • Boom Studios also publishes a variety of styles, but they're only open to artist submissions, probably because they mostly handle licensed IPs. For what it's worth, I know of a few artists who've done alternate covers for their titles, and Ryan North, who created the webcomic Dinosaur Comics writes for their Adventure Time comic. They seem happy with their treatment.

  • Chromatic Press is manga oriented and publishes a "manga monthly". However, though it's creator owned I perceived the contract I saw as bad, and I haven't yet seen any of their titles in print in my local book or comic book store. I think they're only available from their website.

  • IDW works with a lot of licensed titles, like My Little Pony, TMNT and Judge Dredd, but consequently they only accept artist submissions. I know secondhand a couple artists who do freelance cover work for them.

  • Image publishes a good variety of styles and are open to submissions, but it's getting more difficult to be accepted as they're very popular for creator owned comics. I know multiple writers and artists who work with them and are happy.

  • Yen press publishes a lot of shoujo, but as far as I can tell mostly work with licensed properties. They do take submissions though.

The following don't currently accept submissions, but you may want to keep an eye on them. They sometimes accept subs at conventions. Like the above, I don't think any pay advances.
