JA Konrath, an indie author who has a lot of best-sellers on Amazon, is starting a new service that seems to be a fantastic idea.

He explains what it's all about @ http://jakonrath.blogspot.com/2015/03/ebooks-for-libraries.html and the link to the site is http://www.ebooksareforever.com

I've signed up and am just waiting for the confirmation email to go on to the next step. I am certainly going to tell my publisher about it!

Ok, he's pushing the API, which is really just a way of telling the supplier which book the reader wants to read (and is nowhere close to new technology, OverDrive has offered one for many years) but what format will the titles be supplied in? What software will the reader need to read the titles? Will they be compatible with BlueFire or the OverDrive Media Console or are they readable in a browser? (Although the ACS server suggests they'll be ePub or PDF).

I'd like more detail before I'd go rushing into this one.

ETA: the API is a way of pushing the web page design, hosting, and content delivery onto the library to set up and maintain. I wonder how many will be able to integrate that with their current offering.

Oh, good grief. Another post from Konrath in which he discusses a controversy which doesn't really exist.
