Claviger, which I just ran across in a book I was reading: one who keeps the keys, a custodian or warden. (I'd guessed that from context, but wasn't sure about the exact meaning of the word.)

Downdraft; a violent and destructive hailstorm just happened in the work that I'm currently writing and I'm doing some research on the inner works of storms (particularly those that generate hail and large quantities of hail). I want to make sure that what I've written is accurate

downdraft

I keep a sticky note on my computer where I write down all the words that I come across, either randomly on the internet, or by reading. (Have you guys noticed how many ridiculously obscure words David Foster Wallace uses?)

My most recent 5:

Threnody: A song lamenting the death of someone.
Vermiform: Having the characteristic of a worm or snake.
Quotidian: Reoccurring, regular, mundane.
Inchoate: Incomplete, rudimentary, unfinished.
Lachrymose: Teary, sad, inspiring crying.
