Yesterday Polish developer 11 Bit Studios announced a new sort of war game, where instead of soldiers you take on the role of civilians trying to survive amidst a war-torn city, spending their days hiding in their shelters from snipers and their nights gathering supplies in the dangerous city.
The genre is described as a dark, realistic survival adventure full of tough choices and ambiguous morality. You can check out the chillingly awesome trailer at the website.
This went straight up to my list for games to look forwards to in 2014. For how much games depict war, it's amazing how the human cost of conflict has been almost entirely absent from them for so long. If 11 Bit pulls this off well, it could be the most important game for the medium in 2014.
