If you want to post an announcement about an upcoming competition, seminar, etc. this is the place.

Please include useful details like the name of the competition and who's running it, deadline dates, etc.

Here are some links to screenwriting competition databases which AW members should check out before submitting to any competitions you don't recognize:

moviebytes.com
filmmakers.com
creativescreenwriting.com
withoutabox.com

Feel free to let me know about other competition databases and I'll post them here, too.

The filmmakers among us might want to check out the new thread in Share Your Work's Screenwriting forum: Watch my movie! (post links to your online videos/trailers here) (password = vista)

Short Scene Competition

On my blog, The Rouge Wave, we sponsor one page short scene competitions every few weeks. We usually give away $25 gift certificates to AMC theaters or somesuch - it's just fun and the guidelines are silly.

This time we have something pretty neat to give away and it's a free pass to The Great American Pitch Fest, June 20-22, in Burbank, Ca. For writing a very clever one page short scene. The cost to submit is nothing, of course, we do this for fun.

Go to The Rouge Wave to check out the submission guidelines, rules, etc. The deadline is May 1st. On May 7th, I will post the top three semi-finalists and the blog's readership will determine the winner. Ballot box stuffing is frowned on, so please, if you come vote on the 7th, we're looking for vim, verve and great execution, now how many friends you have.

The Tenth Annual Nashville Screenwriters Conference
If you can only attend one conference this year, consider the Tenth Annual Nashville Screenwriters Conference (NSC) held on May 30-June 1 at the Union Station Hotel. The NSC is famous for providing unique opportunities to network with some of Hollywood's top executives, producers and writers. NSC 2008 will feature the Music in the Movies panel, which allows songwriters to view scenes from upcoming film and television projects and submit songs for consideration, an advanced screening of HBO's newest mini-series, Generation Kill and face-to-face dialogue with writers from ABC's hit drama, Grey's Anatomy. The weekend culminates in a Silver Screen Party, which features world-class songwriters in the round. Past performers include Jimmy Lauderdale, John Hiatt, Kim Richey, and Mindy Smith in an intimate setting. Attendees have said it's one of the best conferences in the nation. Early Bird Deadline: June 1st, 2008

Hey everybody - just a reminder that if you submit to the Silver Screenwriting Competition TODAY by midnight, you are still eligible for the early bird submission fee but it gets better - everyone who submits before today is over is eligible for a drawing to win a FREE attendance at Jim Mercurio's Killer Screenwriting class in LA in June plus a free copy of Pilar Alessandra's On the Page dvd. That's a prize worth over $1,200.

Because this is a new competition, we don't have the thousands of submissions that the bigger competitions have. What that means for you is that the odds are quite good at the moment. The final deadline is July 1st but take advantage of the savings - and the prizes - today.

Slightly tweaked the name of this thread. This is still the place to post all of your competition announcements but it's also a place to post anything involving yourself of interest to other members. An interview, a newspaper piece, a signing, an appearance or, that you're going to be on a TV show. About cats. :)

Rainy Night said:
I'm sure this will get moved to the SHAMELES SELF PROMOTION THREAD, but I thought I would let you know that the entire Rainy Night clan (including Fluffy the cat) will be appearing on Animal Planet on July 5th - 9:00 AM.

At a computer?
Can I get some clarification here? Are you merely informing us? Or, are you (clockwork, it seems the answer is obvious with Julie Gray, I think) personally endorsing posted contests? In other words, do you have personal experience with the Silver Screenwriting Program? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

No, I have nothing to do with the Silver Screenwriting Program. This thread is where anyone can post details of competitions, seminars, announcements or anything that might be of interest to other members or promotes a sense of community (like Rainy being on TV :) ) I posted the link to the Disney fellowship after hearing about it online and because I thought someone might want to apply. Sounds like a good opportunity.

(the website is vague but I think this one is UK submissions only)

2008 RED PLANET WRITING COMPETITION

Following last year's success, we are now calling for submissions for our second annual writing competition.

The winner of this year's competition will receive:

* A £5000 prize
* Representation by a leading literary agency
* A script commission from Red Planet Pictures.

Runners up will have the opportunity to be mentored by the Red Planet team.

Budding writers should send in the first ten pages of a 60 minute pilot script with television series potential. The entry should also include a one-page outline about the series.

The first ten pages of a script are the most important. It's in those first ten pages that you have to grab your audience. The series outline should give us a flavour of your own unique voice as well as an idea of your vision for the series.

There are no guidelines or restrictions in terms of genre or subject.

The deadline for entries is September 30th 2008.

Go here for more...

BlueCat Screenwriting Workshops: London, NYC, Chicago, Rochester, Toronto

bcsworkshop_2008_07_03_234x60.gif

UPCOMING BLUECAT WORKSHOPS: London, NYC, Chicago, Rochester, Toronto

THE TEN PAGE WORKSHOP
The TEN PAGE WORKSHOP will consist of 10 writers each submitting ten pages of a work in progress in advance. We will go over each work individually, discussing the specific, unique challenges each writer is facing on the page. This discussion will include the technical aspects of description and dialogue, the depth and reality of the characters, and how the ten pages reflect where the entire story goes.

The intimate, focused interaction with fellow writers in the workshop will provide all with a greater understanding of the work that lies ahead on their screenplay, and more importantly, a detailed sense of how they might develop as writers themselves.

THE ART OF SCREENWRITING
Writers will engage in writing and pitching exercises designed to flesh out new ideas or rework existing scripts. Please bring your laptops and/or paper and pen.

If each person is indeed unique, it follows simply that each writer is unlike any other, and can write a story no one else on Earth can. This purpose is the mission of this workshop.

At this stage we are asking applicants to submit a 150-word synopsis briefly outlining their story. We will then shortlist 25 applicants who will be required to submit their full script and from which, the winner will be chosen.

We are particularly interested in the drama genre and we ask that the scripts not exceed 10 minutes in length.

(Please note that due to high volumes of entries we are unable to offer feedback on synopses.)

Please email [email protected] with your synopsis, a covering letter and contact details.
