Gail's, Mike's, and andreea's successive avies above, all cats, reminded me of a story from fifteen years ago. We adopted an eight-week-old, black, male kitten from the local humane society. His claws seemed a little odd, appearing from his toes closer to their tops than most cats, rather like a bear cub.

So, we named him Kuma, Japanese for "bear." My wife told the people at her office about the kitten and his name. One woman looked at my wife with amazement and asked, "Why would you give him a foreign name? He'll never recognize his name, he's an American cat!"

We both have heard the wisdom that has come out of her mouth over the years, and I assure you that she was serious.

That didn't surprise me or bother me. What bothered me is that she is qualified to vote and even to pass her thought processes on to following generations.

Haggis is going to love this, but...

While I was in Ohio, I got some strange questions.

Q: Do you have a 4th of July in South Africa?

A: Yes. And a 5th of July, and a 6th of July, and a 7th....

Q: (from a middle grade kid) Do you have watermelon in South Africa? Do you have pizza in SA?

A: We practically invented them.

(Kid was devastated.)

LOL. Gail, that was brilliant.
Nobody asked you where South Africa is? :D

Well, there was a brief discussion, during which one person suggested that it might be somewhere in Mexico, but I think they were joking.

I hope they were joking.

Ole.

I think those lights have been up for six years now so we should start by plugging in the cord after we have a drawing to see whose chord to unplug so we can plug the lights in so we can see if they work or explode or dont change at all so we can get someone to check them bulb by bulb and hang up some missle tow to make everyone put their teeth back in and kiss each other with green and red jello on the cart and maybe pass out a cookie collection and try to read who sent christmas cards and maybe remember if we know them or have been randomly selected for a christmas card for the elderly or have a secrit santa or draw names to see who gets the presant this year and start a pool to see who wont be in the drawing next year and if I put my mind to it after I find it this might be the most specialist of the two or three christmasssess we can remember or something and stuff because

A dark, evil place.
What do you have against Ohio?
Fair question, Bard.

First of all, there was the Toledo War.

Then there's that football team down there somewhere you can't get to from here. AW does not like that team.

The school bites too.

And the state is flat.

And boring.
