I think of my novel as YA contemporary fantasy. But I'm wondering if I should re-define or get more specific for querying.
My main characters are shapeshifters (but their only "powers" are shapeshifting, a few heightened senses depending on their species, and healing about 10-15% faster than your average human. There really aren't any other fantasy elements). The driving storyline is action and borrows elements from dystopian fiction. There is also a strong romantic storyline, and one of my beta readers has suggested (based on the first few chapters) that really, this is a romance novel. But the romantic plot is not a driving force. The relationship is redefined slightly in the beginning, but it has existed since before the timeline of the novel and remains largely stable throughout the story.
Any advice?
