If one were to send a manuscript to a publisher for the first book of a planned series, would they mention the fact that it is a planned series in the query letter?

I read somewhere that this is something you're not supposed to do?

Cheering you all on!
Is the first book a standalone? If you have a standalone "with series potential," agents like seeing that.

Yes, my first book would be a standalone with series potential.

Ditto what Sage said. I have specifically asked agents about this and was told to say something like this:

"Bob's Giant Flaming Banana Bread is a 84,000 word romance novel with series potential."

(Just something simple like that)
