I've used Amazon a lot ever since they came into existence, thousands of dollars worth, books, DVDs, and lots of other stuff including pharmacy items. Never once have I gotten the wrong stuff, or had slow deliveries, or had any problem returning stuff. This includes orders from their many third-party partners.

I'm sure it happens, but most of the stories I hear about this I attribute to rare accident, or lies.

Amazon has lots of faults (its urge to monopolize one of them). But such inefficiency does not seem to be one of them. But, hey, these tales are very entertaining and satisfy a lot of people's desire to bash Amazon, so we'll keep hearing them.

However from Amazons perspective this might not be so bad if it’s really an investor ponzi scheme.

Million. But take heart, you're only several orders of magnitude off.

$955,686 is nowhere near a Billion. His total stock value is only $19 Million.

here, but too far from the ocean
Wow, I will have to look into Amazon prospects a bit further. My experience with them so far has been limited but good.

I signed up for free Prime for 30 days, and I can tell you it changed my life as far as Christmas shopping was concerned. I had a few items which were cheaper elsewhere, but I ordered most of my kids toys and family gifts online with their free 2-day shipping. I think I made at least 15 different orders, and they were all perfect. Now, some of them were for $2 items, and others for $12 items. I did notice they packed a few together (glad they got smart to save postage).

Overall it was a great experience. But I am sure they lost money on me shipping-wise. However, I liked them enough, and want access to the free ebooks (and videos) for our family, that I plan to let the $99 charge hit in a few days (1 year membership fee for Prime).

But, I don't know if overall they still earn enough money this way? I like the security of "fulfilled by Amazon" (when I buy something that is not digital), and the convenience of Prime.

So at least for me, they don't need to send out free stuff to get my attention. And I doubt they want to lose merchandise. But if they are going to glitch again, I am happy to accept something... Really...

Amazon loses money on prime.

That's why it is now $99 rather then the former $79, yet now 2014 Quarter 4 is predicted to be larger losses than over half a billion I mentioned above for Q3.

Jeff Bezos comes from Wall street and was a hedge fund manage before he started Amazon. Similar to banks, Amazon does not live in the real world or by the same rules that everyone else has to.
