March 15th - 27th!

Flash Fiction Fortnight!

Each morning during the challenge, Sophia will update this post with a new prompt for the day, so please check back if you find them useful! All of the challenge prompts will remain permanently available to you, so if you'd like to use any of them outside of the Fortnight, please feel free to do so.

===========================================

April 1st Last Day to Submit:

Deadline to submit entries in HoneyBadger's
Write it Wrong March Challenge
. Rules? Okay maybe Anti-rules? Can be found: here. (password: vista)

example of some of the 'rules'

1) Pieces must be no more than 1k words.
2) Submit your pieces to me via PM by March 31 and I'll post them all in one big fat thread on April 1, with author names removed. You can vote for winners, or not, who cares, it's the 90s.

And here are the anti-rules for this challenge:

1) Write what you don't know. Write about something you're embarrassingly ignorant about and make up the details. No research. Just make shit up.

2) You may use 5 periods. Use them wisely. There are no restrictions on any other marks of punctuation.

3) Open with weather.

4) You may not use "said" as a dialogue tag- you must use adverbs.

....If any 1 of the 4 anti-rules prove too difficult, you may skip that one rule, but please put a little note at the beginning of your piece to tell us which rule you've decided to ignore. Invite others, share this around, and have fun!

While you all are working on the Christmas Creeper Challenge, don't forget the AW Poetry Resurrection Contest (password citrus).

The AW Poetry Resurrection Contest entry deadline has been extended to January 11, 2013 at 11pm, CST, just so you can enter! Created by AW's Poet Laureate, Kie Borsden, it is a fun and challenging contest. (Come out and support your new AW Poet Laureate. You know you want to!)

The requirements for the poem are two-fold. From the contest page:

You are invited to be creative on 2 fronts

1. Write a poem about anything
2. Invent your own verse form

Entries will be judged on the creativity of both.

It is all about creativity, folks. Are you a poet? Give it a go. Not yet considered a poet but want to be? Give it a go! You never know. Your poem may be the one!

Kie gives links and examples to what he means by inventing your own verse form. For those that think it is difficult, it isn't really that hard. A slight modification to a form you already write in and, voila!, you have your own verse form.

Please click on the link given up above or in my sig line to go to the contest thread for full details.

Good luck!

There is currently a discussion happening in the Poetry section about the next AW poetry contest(s). This discussion will help determine what the contest(s) turns out to be.

Please join in. The more ideas on what is being proposed, the better.

Please check out the writing challenge in my link!!

Lots of fun! The challenge is to write a short story 1500 words or less, based on a song. Last poster chooses song, once you submit your story, you choose the next song.

The 2014 AW POETRY REVIEW CONTEST

On September 18th, the 2014 AW Poetry Review Contest began.

It is unfortunate that I was without Internet access and moving during the time the contest started, and have been unable to promote the phases of it in this thread due to Internet connectivity and moving. I wish I could have been able to do more, sooner. But now the last phase of the contest is in progress and folks, the contestants need your support.

Please follow the links I have included below, read how to vote, read the poems and the entries, and then vote. All votes need to be submitted to poetinahat. The voting will end on the 14th of November, midnight Eastern Standard time.

Here are the links:

WARNING: Shameless begging ahead, with a touch of nag sauce

You GUYS! Seriously, it really boosts everyone when there are participants and votes in a contest. We know poetry ain't everyone's favorite date to the prom or whatever, but truly, these reviews of a few good poems, which we are asking you to please rate, should be interesting to any writer here. Not a one of them is very long, nor are they filled with arcane, technical terms only academic poets know. And there are only eight of them. Voting is easy for you and means a heck of a lot to us.

Your poets love you! Show us a little love back, wouldja please?

*end of beg*
