I have a 2,070 word short story that I would like critiqued. It's too long for SYW, and since I'm only planning on posting it on certain sites, I don't think a "beta reader" would be most appropriate. I could be wrong, though. Not only that, I'm not even sure what the genre is, so I can't label it either. :(

Any suggestions?

Why don't you post the first half of it, in Mainstream? You can tell people they're only getting the first half because you don't want to overwhelm, and if there is an obvious genre issue with it being in Mainstream, it can be moved. Or, if it is obviously NOT appropriate for Mainstream, just take your best shot at placing it.

(Also, while 2070 words is kind of long, it is not by any means the longest thing posted. The issue is that longer pieces often don't get such detailed attention.)

Kylabelle beat me to it, but I'll reiterate for emphasis:

I've seen someone post over 3000 words. 2K is a bit long, but it might get responses. If you're really trying to respect everyone's time, find a decent break point around halfway and post up to that.
