It's not an absolute shit-ton of words, but it is quite a few and it is the first time I've gotten past the puttering with a WIP stage. I wrapped my outline last year, and have been chugging along ever since but at a snail's pace. Well, today I decided I was just gonna go ahead and do it so I ripped out about 1800 words and passed into five digit territory. Only about 115k more to go...

I remember when I passed 10k on my first ever WIP :). It was a good feeling. Congrats!

Paul, that's great. Now, when can I expect 2500 more, eh?

Maryn, with a wink

Shortly! I wouldn't have stopped but for having to get kids from school and start being a parent again...
It's kind of neat how sitting down and plugging away makes you not want to stop. Must be some kind of dopamine hit when the progress bar clicks up.

I'm still wallowing around at 4k, congrats! About 10% of your novel done, that's a pretty significant milestone I'd say.

I've found that by maintaining a minimum of 250 a day, they start to add up pretty fast. 250 is doable in 15-30 minutes depending on how cooperative my brain is, and once I'm "in the zone" it's much easier to push on to 400, 600, 800 or whatever. Making the decision that it has to happen every day at some point regardless of mood, rain, shine, sleet or hail is the thing that keeps it going.

Finished first draft. Not as long as I had originally anticipated, but still full length novel at 88k.

Feel pretty good about it!
