This just in: ANNUAL CV2 2-DAY POEM CONTEST IS NOW TAKING REGISTRANTS!

Calling all Wordsmiths

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
ENTER THE ANNUAL CV2 2-DAY POEM CONTEST

Test your poetic prowess! Now in its sixth year, Contemporary Verse 2: The Canadian Journal of Poetry and Critical Writing is proud to offer the international 2-Day Poem Contest.

Writers from around the world are invited to join us for two days and create the best poem they can using our ten mystery words. All it takes is ten bucks and an email address to register and secure a chance at competing for three great cash prizes as well as publication in Contemporary Verse 2.

Prizes include 350.00 for first place, $175.00 for second and $90.00 for third. In addition three Honourable Mentions will be chosen. All selected entries will be published in a future issue of CV2 and receive a complimentary year subscription as well. If that’s not enough, the first place Canadian finisher gets to judge next year’s contest.

To participate, pre-registration, an email address and a $10 entry fee are required. As a bonus for contest registrants, CV2 is offering a spectacular discount off a year subscription to the magazine. For an additional $10 (regular rate $23.98) you can have one of Canada’s oldest and most respected poetry journals delivered to your door. Winners receiving a complimentary subscription and current subscribers will receive an extra year’s subscription from CV2 when registering for the 2-day contest at this special rate.

Registration takes place online at www.contemporaryverse2.ca. Payment can be made through Paypal upon registration or contestants can mail in a cheque or money order (US funds are required from all non-Canadian entries paying by regular post) to Contemporary Verse 2, 502-100 Arthur St. Winnipeg, MB R3B 1H3. Registration deadline is March 28, 2008.

At Midnight (00:00 CST) April 5th, CV2’s top secret list of 10 words will be emailed to registered contestants, and the competition begins. For people wanting to play for the fun of it, the words will also be posted to the CV2 website. The contestants then have 2 days (48 hours) to complete their entries. Final poetry entries cannot exceed 48 lines, must incorporate ALL ten secret words and must be received not later than midnight (00:00 CST) April 7th. Only one poem may be entered per participant. Late entries or entries omitting or improperly using any of the ten super secret words will be disqualified.

This year we are proud to have Julie Berry from St. Thomas, Ontario judge the final entries. An award-winning poet, Julie has published in a wide range of Canadian journals. A collection of poetry, worn thresholds, was published by Brick Books.

I'm not telling.
The Poetry Society of New Hampshire sponsors four national contests a year open to all poets, members or not. Independent judges will award four prizes per contest: first place, $100; second, $50; and third and fourth places, $25 each.

Winning poems will be published in the Poets Touchstone, PSNH's quarterly magazine, and winning poets will receive one copy of the issue in which their poems appear. Rights revert to the author after publication.

Submit up to five poems per contest: one poem per page of up to forty typed lines. Enclose two copies of each poem, one with no identification, the other with your name and address in the upper right corner, and include a #10 SASE for winners list. Poems will not be returned. Entry fee is $3 for the first poem and $2 each for additional poems. No simultaneous submissions; no previously published or prize-winning poems. Postmark by the appropriate deadline: May 15, Aug. 15, Nov. 15, or Feb.15. Mail entries and check (payable to PSNH) to Lynne Birdsall, PO Box 1615, Concord, NH 03302-1615.

FIELD Contemporary Poetry and Poetics is published twice yearly, in spring and fall. Editors read submissions year round, usually reply within six weeks, and suggest that writers familiarize themselves with the journal before submitting.

Translations are welcome if publication permission has been acquired from the author of the original work. Include SASE for response. To have manuscript returned, include sufficient postage. No simultaneous or electronic submissions. Send two to six poems at a time to FIELD, Oberlin College Press, 50 N. Professor St., Oberlin, OH 44074.

The 2010 Poets' Guide to New Hampshire: More Places, More Poets

The Poetry Society of New Hampshire is accepting submissions for the second volume in this series. Submissions will be accepted from November 1, 2008 until April 1, 2009 (no exceptions). The Poets' Guide series is modeled on a travel guide, full of information about the State's towns, history, geography, flora, fauna, and life, all communicated through poems.

Each poet is encouraged to submit two poems. The first should be an original poem, one-page long or less, in which the location, action, imagery or metaphor is specifically related to New Hampshire. The second poem, called the 'entry fee poem,' should match the same criteria but be by another poet, a poet likely to escape the notice of the editor. The editor's desire is to make the Poets' Guide as richly inclusive as he knows the New Hampshire poetry community to be.

Poems will be edited cooperatively by the author and the editor. Only edited poems will be considered for inclusion in the Poets' Guide. Poets will be informed of the final decision of the editor by September 1, 2009. Poems should be submitted by e-mail to [email protected], subject heading: The 2010 Poets' Guide to New Hampshire. They may also be submitted to The Poetry Society of New Hampshire, 31 Reservoir Road, Farmington NH 03835, ATTN: 2010PGNH.
