That episode was my favorite so far this season. I mean damn, they went there. It's the only show on television willing to take those risks.
Yeah, porn goes THERE even THERIER.
Porn takes RISKS even RISKIER. Just buzz words!
There are no fiction brownie points awarded just for tossing out edgy ideas. This is not kindergarden.
Ryan Murphy constantly tosses out raunchy characters and raunchy actions and arbitrarily vilifies them along the way. It makes his fiction so much less real. He is clearly an extremely creative man, but sometimes his belligerent and lazy (but mostly loud) attempts at characterization restrict his work from ever resonating in audiences' minds for generations.
I've seen a few hype outlets compare Ryan Murphy to Tennessee Williams. Hilarious! Comparing the characterization of Williams to Murphy is like comparing David Bowie to Lady Gaga, or Lou Reed to Justin Bieber.
Williams could say more about a character in a hundred words of dialogue than Murphy could in five hundred.
It's a good show. If Murphy doesn't change anything he'll still have a well-deserved prosperous career. But he won't ever threaten to enter that upper-echelon. Look at any of the many super creative and talented artists, both homegrown and splashed ashore America like an explosion in 1967 and learn about their career. Explore their discographies and filmographies. You'll see that the greats all wanted to get greater and greater with each new project, lifestyle, and vision. Some music artists attempted to chronicle every major spiritual or artistic change of their life!
So I'm just voicing out loud my hopes for Murphy's career.
