Here's the list I used. I actually carried it around with me when I had fulls out, and as it turned out, I was glad I did.
Will you represent everything I write? (middle grade novels, chapter books, PBs)?
If I write the occasional magazine story, can I continue to sub those myself?
How close is my manuscript to being ready for submission? Do you anticipate much editing and rewriting before it's submitted? Will you be working with me on this?
Do you have any particular publishers in mind?
How often do you like to communicate with authors? Do you make the contact, or do you expect the author to get in touch? Preferred mode of communication?
Do you discuss submission plans with clients before you sub a ms?
Once you agree to rep a work, how soon would you expect to sub it?
What made you decide to offer representation?
Do you send rejection letters to your authors? How?
Any blogging guidelines? Are online excerpts or blurbs okay, or a no-no?
