How Do You Know If You've Written a YA or just an Adult Fiction?

Everyone seems to have different answers on this, and I wanted to see if anyone had a definitive way of telling the fiction's category. I write by genre, but YA novels span over many genres. Is it a coming of age thing? Is it the age of the protagonist? Is it the language used?

Who has a definition?
