Ihr könnt euch gar nicht vorstellen, wie schwer es für mich ist, auf Deutsch umzuschalten, wenn ich auf AW bin. Und Deutsch ist meine Muttersprache! (You can't even imagine how hard it is for me to switch to German, when I'm at AW. And German is my mother tongue!)

I'm not sure I agree that German is precise and logical, though...

I'm wondering about that, too.

I said the exact same thing regarding spanish/portuguese. Weird how our brains assume a certain language/mindset in certain environments, isn't it?

Oh I think it's beautifully logical, especially compared to English! Words are spelt exactly the way they sound, compound words describe exactly what a thing or concept is, and so on. Think of words like "Einstelling" or "Vorstellung" -- you place something "inside" yourself. Or "in front of" yourself.
What about this magnificent word:

Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher

(Egg-shell-should-break-place-causer)

Even if you never heard of it before, you can figure out what it is using logic; it tells you exactly! And yes, it really exists, kind of a novelty gadget with a novelty name, kind of a joke -- I've seen one!

you're right Aruna. I always got a kick out of how this language could combine words. made a lot of sense, but I also remember giggling at the unfamiliar sounds coming out of our mouths as well.

Ich glaube ich kenne nicht genug zu wissen ob es ist praezis und logisch, aber habe ich auch gerne die grosse Wörter. Ich finde diese Spaß. (Oder ist es besser: ich genieße sie (?).)

Und wo kann ich dass ding einkaufen?

That depends on what you mean by "spelled how they sound".

Guten Tag, liebe Freunde!
Ich schaetze die deutsche Sprache sehr, denn sie ist so praezis und logisch, in Gegensatz zu mir!

Wer? Ich! Deutsch habe ich als Hauptfach an der Uni studiert, dazu habe ich auch ein Jahr in Deutschland gewohnt. Danach habe ich den Magister in deutscher Literatur gemacht.

Yep, I once watched British television all day, and when my mom talked to me I didn't understand what she said. She had to repeat it. o_O

Nur ein wenig.

I love German-language musicals: Elisabeth (my favorite!), Tanz der Vampire, Rebecca, etc.

Hallo! Danke for das Thema. Ich lerne Deutsch. Ich lese Deutsch gut, aber ich spreche es schlecht.

Ich denke Deutsch ist präzis aber nicht logisch (all those verbs piled on the end. gah!)

Die Grammatik ist schwer, aber ich liebe den Wortschatz. :)

Ich auch. "Das Mädchen". Diese Deutscher sind verrückt.

That's because all nouns that get the diminutive suffix -chen tagged on become neuter (and a/o/u --> ä/ö/ü):

Der Kasten - Das Kästchen
Die Katze - Das Kätzchen
Der Hund - Das Hündchen
Der Bub - Das Bübchen
Die Maid - Das Mädchen

Same goes for -lein (an alternative diminutive suffix).

***

Btw, I wouldn't say "Das Thema wächst." A topic isn't something that grows. Maybe you could use it metonymically for "thread", but I don't think I would in this context. I'd be curious to hear what other native speakers have to say on that. It's an interesting choice.
