Hello! I have been a long time lurker around these forums and figured it was finally time to go ahead and make an account to join in rather than just observing from a distance.

I started writing for fun back in high school and (after realizing the things I was writing were absolutely awful) stopped for a while, then came back to it at the beginning college and haven't stopped since. I'm now out of college and trying desperately to finish my certification so I can legally teach in the state of New York (and from the sound of things, just about every other state by extension).

The majority of my writing falls somewhere between fantasy and science fiction, and just about all of it falls into the "yet to be completed" catagory, unfortunately. Too many ideas, so many outlines, tons of rough drafts, and not enough time to finish a single one of them.

Can't wait to get to know you lot and see how this community runs from a member's standpoint!

Susie

Thanks, special friend for my avi!

Hey! New York! What part? I'm in Brooklyn. Teaching certs here are no joke, you must be doing a ton of work and I hope you're not putting blame on yourself for having some open ended drafts lying around. There is only so much time and it is never enough.

What grade are you going to teach? Or what subjects? I haven't the fortitude to become a teacher but I once seriously considered it (which is how I know I would not be able.)

Many thanks! Definitely going to be giving that newbies guide a read through.

Oh cool, I was originally from Brooklyn but about twelve years ago my family and I moved up to Poughkeepsie after my dad got out of the army. I'm currently going for certification in Adolescent Ed, dual majoring in History and Special Education. Kind of considering doing a little more work afterwards to get the childhood ed certification as well, but I'd like to at least find some work before pursuing that any further.

And trust me I know the feeling on said fortitude required for it. Prior to student teaching I had so much anxiety over how I'd actually do as a teacher, how I'd engage the students, and I'd possibly stay sane through the whole experience. Wasn't until my second placement that things finally clicked and by then I was almost ready to give up on the prospect all together. Now there's nothing I'd rather be doing (apart from winning the lottery and then just spending the rest of my life writing for fun).

:) The world needs more teachers and writers just like you; both are jobs best done by people who would rather be doing them than anything else!
