I have been searching for a dedicated critique group that has literary fiction as a focus. Can anyone recommend any? Critters has a literary workshop, but it's not very well-attended.
Hi, I don't know of any but I'll join you if you find one.
I do belong to an non-virtual group: one YA, one mystery, one fantasy, one memoire, one shapeshifter and me. At first I thought it wouldn't work, but I've learned so much critiquing them. And they have been super helpful when I go off into my literary cave and don't take the reader along. (It doesn't hurt that we all like to eat and drink...)
To a degree, critques can cross genres, provided people are disciplined enough to read work they may not really enjoy. But, whether the story is literary, sci fi or fantasy, to name a few, other genres typically overlap into the primary. Mystery and suspense build tension, romance is common any time you have more than a couple of characters, humor can lighten up even the darkest story.
