Thanks Ann Joyce, Spell-It-Out, and Sunwords!
It is cool to be able to order a paperback online. I am finding it hard to get people to actually go to Amazon and purchase the book though. They all want it handed to them (even the ones who already have accounts through Amazon). It did sting a little when someone asked "So...when will your book be in Target or any bookstore shelf?" Sometimes it seems like people don't consider it an accomplishment unless the experience is up to their standards. Oh well, that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.
Yesterday, I ordered 5 paperbacks because I plan to go around the indie bookstores to see if they'd be willing to put ONE BY ONE on their bookshelves as consignment. For any authors, who has done this, I have a question: did you put your book through extended distribution so stores could get a discount? Or did you buy your own books, then distribute them to stores yourself?
I read in the forums that Goodreads giveaways is a good way to get exposure, so I entered a paperback into a giveaway yesterday. It runs until July 28th (my birthday
) I noticed on my author dashboard that 25 people have added it to their To-Read list so far, but I think for the giveaway itself only 5 people have entered for a chance to win (if I'm reading things right).
I've also noticed it's much easier getting book reviews instead of guest spots on other blogs or author interviews. Maybe for my next book, I'll consider doing a book tour through a company.
All in all, it's been fun trying things that will work and won't work with gaining exposure.
