Assuming intent is a logical fallacy to avoid in critiquing an image, just like in critiquing writing.
I was asking purely from an artistic standpoint.

THAT's what was bugging me about the microphone (I finally figured it out... thanks to the comments). When I first looked at the picture, I thought her bent arm held a microphone. If that arm's bent that way, then it wouldn't seem she would need another mic in the other hand.

I didn't realize it was a question?

But what is the artistic rationale? Why does the viewer's eye need to flow in that specific way in order for this cover to be a successful image?

I didn't see the mic in the right hand. I assumed it was in the left hand and was being held close to her face.

Really? You question why a viewer's eye needs to flow across the image? I never said that it equated to a successful or unsuccessful image.

Maybe it's just the artist in me. *shrug*

Tell your artist that when a women raises her arm, her boobs will also raise.

You aren't making any sense to me in this thread.

Honestly, I'm just trying to understanding what you're trying to say about this book cover.

As an artist, you must understand that there are countless ways in which a viewer's eye can flow across an image. You've singled one avenue out and proclaimed it a failure. I think it's a reckless criticism. And I'm attempting to preserve the integrity of critiques here by calling you out for an explanation.

Could we please desist with the discussion on what people are "allowed" to say in their comments and focus on the actual cover?

One thing that I'm not sure has been mentioned. For me, I can see the woman as facing towards me (out of the cover) or facing away. Not sure if that was meant but it could make some things seem weird depending on which way you imagine her looking.

The breast, to me, seems too low.

Not that we all have high, perky breasts but this seems to be a little... floppy?
