When I write a long scene that doesn't 'feel' right, I print it out, grab a highlighter and mark only the essential dialogue and action.

It can be a horrifying experience, but it does often point me to the real focus of the scene and keep me on track.

Dialogue MUST SOUND REAL. It moves the story, reveals a character, ads tension, gets the reader involved. Different genres demand different dialogues…and yet, regardless of what you write, each character should have a trade. You’ll have the long winded, the concis, the sophisticated with a rich vocabulary, the agramat…and so on. Careful with internal dialogue…keep it short.
You can convey info dump through dialogue and hold on to reader’s attention.
