Hi all,

I'm trying to think up the perfect name for a teacher in my book. She is middle aged, friendly in a crinkly eyes way, and there's something almost magical about her. She teaches 11 year olds, and is the best teacher in the school and I'd love a name that rolls off the tongue and makes you feel happy.

Have you got any thoughts?

What are some of the most brilliant teacher surnames you've come across?

You could think of any object that isn't typically thought of as a name and use it. For example only . . .

Ms Petal

Ms Squareknot

Ms Punch

Ms Beanbag

You might want to use something that has some magical connotation.

Ms Cateyes

Ms Crystal

Ms Broomstick

Mrs. Crane-she is a real person and very close to the person you are describing. She retired last year so probably will never come across your novel. These days she is busy driving tractor on her farm. --s6

Can you share the written description of her to help us think of a name for her?

the last place you thought to look
Are you wanting only a traditionally western hemispherey type name like

Mrs O'Grady
Mrs Wilson
Mrs Quinn
Mrs Potts
Mrs Brown

or would you consider something more diverse like

Mrs Gupta
Mrs Kwan
Mrs Pham

?

My favorite teachers all had very uncommon last names. If I had to create an upbeat, sunny, makes-you-feel-good fictitious surname for all of them, it would be: Bright. As in, Miss Bright, Ms. Bright, Mrs. Bright, Mr. Bright. That's because all of my favorite teachers were incredibly intelligent and all of 'em had a way of brightening up my day.

My favorite teacher was named Mrs. Richie. Always smiling, always so kind.

Mrs. Puffpaff. I used to work in a gift shop and somebody with that name sent in a catalogue order.

Mrs. Plunkett. Periwinkle. Smiley. (somebody I knew) Mrs. McTavish or Rose (friend of the family) or Valentine (our neighbor's last name). Mrs. Stuckey. Mrs. Bird. Mrs. Ping.
