Wow, everyone here is so accomplished! I feel both inspired and intimidated to join in.
But, here is my insane goal.
I've been working on a collection of novels for the past 3.5 years. I have 1 ms polished (queried for it this year, but despite a good rate of requests, all ended in rejection so far...waiting to hear back on 4 FRs, but heard one of the agents is a 'no response means no' on fulls, so let's say 3). But I'm not holding my breath on getting agent. Realistically, I know my chances are slim.
So. On to the goal of self-publishing if I don't get picked up by an agent. I have written 6 novels in the collection (5 need edits & revisions, the other is the polished ms I queried). I have 3 ms half-way written or need a complete rewrite. And I have 3 that haven't yet been written, b/c I have a character in mind for each but they haven't showed up to deliver their stories to my muse. Wouldn't that be nice?
My short-term goal was to finish a ms during nanowrimo, which I did. My long-term goal is to write all 3 of the remaining novels by the end of 2015 and to rewrite or finish the 3 that fizzled out.
And THEN. My insane goal is to publish all of them in 2016. Just writing this makes me realize how crazy it sounds. But I am excited for the project that I've put years of my life into. I have wanted to give up so many times. And I'm sure I will again. I may give up before it ever happens. But right now, this is my mad, mad goal.
