He better. If the threat is so high in your area that the regional rail system is shut down, no sensible person should expect other sensible people to come in.

This.

We should be okay here in the Burgh. We're supposed to get lots of rain, but the ground is less saturated and the rivers lower than it was with Irene, so we should be able to take it.

There will be the usual flooding of low lying areas.

There will be high winds, but not hurricane force. I suspect there will be some isolated power outages due to downed trees, but we shouldn't see anything like what they're predicting near the coast.

Hey gang, how's the day treating you? I slept way too long last night!

Working my way through indie authors again, and I've found something more disappointing than my usual complaint. I've almost gotten used to the fan-fiction-esque unhoned writing skills of the average bad writer. But last night, I stumbled across the opposite. This guy had a great story concept, good grasp of character, even his pacing showed promise. But stylistically, he was trying too hard. Too many adverbs, too many complex sentences. Not really purple; he didn't spend paragraphs going on about this vista or that person's appearance. But it was skirting the edge; just a bit too florid without diving into the lavender. He was also a minimalist on the punctuation.

It sounds like I'm whinging about nothing. But it was surprisingly wearying. I got seven chapters in, and just couldn't take it anymore. Instead of getting into the story, I was reading each line and thinking, "cut that clause, this sentence needs a couple commas, rephrase this to make it work a little better."

It was a real pity, because the story had potential, and the author had some good ideas.

I feel like I need someone with your skills to read my book, lol.

But really, I think the "discard pile" is a good idea. I find myself becoming more and more annoyed by the things people are self-publishing these days. Especially the people with 5 star reviews when even their blurb has a half dozen grammar/typo errors.

At least they've taught me that I will not try to publish until I have full confidence my book is as good as I can make it.

Stay safe people near Frankenstorm. Is anyone else worried this might be the herald of the apocalypse? :e2cry:

She's usually pretty reasonable about it, but I didn't bring any files home with me on Friday so I'm not sure how much use I'd actually be. We'll see, I'll make up the time if I have to... I do NOT want to drive in.

As long as we don't lose power... Can we say stir-crazy?

So I've got this lovely pork loin for supper tomorrow, but I can't decide how to fix it. One recipe calls for basting it in apple juice, the other, red wine. Both sound lovely.

Suggestions?

I'd never heard of that bestfantasybooks page, so I checked it out. I can't say as I disagree with anything he's said, but damn! Dial back on the superlatives, particularly the venom on bad books. There's no call to be like that.
Exactly. I was appauled by his rudeness. It sounded more like professional jealousy to me.

Oh. That. The little flirty thing where she was more like Jubilee. Pfft.
Yeah, her. Sorry Fen. I should have been more specific.

Apparently I just have a separated shoulder. Still hurts like hell, though. Even on a ton of Advil.
Ouch. Feel better LdV. :Hug2:

Time to make beef, cabbage, and noodles.
A proper Pittsburgh dish. :D

Now I think about it, I can see it from a publicity standpoint: venom sells, and the more vitriolic he is, the more hits he gets on the website. But it's still unprofessional.

No worries Lady V. Btw, what would you prefer for short? LV? V?

Good night everyone. I wish you all porny superhero dreams. Hopefully they make more sense than mine, since I was fighting off some contagion. If they dont make sense, then make up some excuse for why your brain is so messed up and tell us the dream anyways.

:)

Someone tell me to stop eating the German rock sugar.

.steals Gina's sugar.

Is it corn free? If it is really German it should be corn free. At least if it used a pre Columbus recipe.

I always think of you and my cousin when I see Gluten free, dairy free, grain free type stuff.

I'm already trying to plan what gluten free thing to bring to Christmas this year for my cousin. Nobody else brings stuff he can eat, so I try to.

And see, this is why I'm willing to wade through the slough of dreck that indie authors can crank out. Tonight's book is a treat. Really professional, well thought out, good characterization, good writing. This is the third or fourth diamond I've found in that mess, and it's SOOOOOO worth it! This is the second time I've read one of them and said, "Why isn't this guy with a big publishing house?"

...on my pirate ship.
Something awesome is hitting in a few hours, and I don't mean the storm. :snoopy:

Apparently I just have a separated shoulder. Still hurts like hell, though. Even on a ton of Advil.

Yikes, that sounds terrible. :Hug2:

:D :Hug2:

I am full of miniature kit kats, anxiety and blooming ideas. Friends? ;)

HEY! That's what I'm full of too. Except the ideas thing. And well, yeah...mostly just the miniature kit kats.

This is what happens when I get to pick the Halloween candy.

That's really nice of you. :)
