I didn't realize, till I began corresponding with Joseph, that the "voice" he used here in the Whimsy forum was mainly an act (a highly entertaining one). His real voice was that of an intelligent, well-informed and gentle man. I think that, to an extent, he used humor as a camouflage for his more sensitive nature. He wrote haiku and other poetry, but--I gathered--he never posted it here because he feared it wasn't good enough.
Here is a haiku he sent me just over a year ago:
invoking the light
hands are place over the eyes
in the shadows, pain
RIP, old friend.
I'm sad, but also a bit happy. Now I know there'll be popcorn and games waiting for me up there.
