Song to the Siren, as sung by This Mortal Coil. It's well worth a listen. Beautiful.

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle
And you sang
Sail to me
Sail to me
Let me enfold you
Here I am
Here I am
Waiting to hold you

Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you here when I was forecastle?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks,
For you sing, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow:
O my heart, O my heart shies from the sorrow"

I am puzzled as the newborn child
I am riddled as the tide.
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Should I lie with Death my bride?
Hear me sing, "Swim to me, Swim to me, Let me enfold you:
Here I am, Here I am, Waiting to hold you"

By Johnny Cash. Some 38 +1's to a comment i made inspired me to write a story about what John Henry stood for in regard to blue collar workers like I was the world over. His alleged quote in the song in regard to the steam drill always stuck with me from oral traditions back home. " If the Lord say that machines ought to take the place of livin', then what's a substitute for bread & beans? I ain't seen it! Are engines rewarded for their steam"?
