I'm at Kiddo #3's National cheerleading championships. Each team has to compete twice and Kiddo's team is in first place after the first round. Her gym is doing pretty well, except one of the older kids blew her knee out this morning on a tumbling pass. Blown knees I can handle - just no broken necks, please, with as much as they throw these kids around.

In a humorous moment, while checking out the competition schedule, I eye-poed the Dance / Pom division as Dance / Porn. Easy to do, I guess, seeing how some of the team names are Rapture, Impulse, and Fantasy.

Rick, suddenly more interested in the competition schedule

I now find that one sex scene is pretty much like another after reading them day in and day out! It takes a pretty special writer to produce a scene that 'gets' to me these days. I've also discovered that:

(1) I have a very low tolerance for poorly written sex scenes;
(2) You can have too many sex scenes;
(3) 'Cock' appears to be the most oft repeated word in sex scenes;
(4) Some writers go into a wee bit too much detail.
* takes copious notes *

I've decided that if there's a Book 3+, I'm going to add in a romantic element between MMC and FMC. In preparation, in Book 2 I've really amped things up; I've added in - a kiss!

It was a bit impulsive, but it seemed the right thing to do - MMC is bleeding to death and she's pretty pissed off, waving a semi-automatic pistol in her hand. (And you're thinking - he gets paid for this shit?)

I was queasy writing a kissing scene - I can't imaging writing a sex scene. If I ever get there, believe me, I'll be looking for some Beta reads. And not my Mom!

A kiss? Shocking!

It's sixty-freakin'-eight degrees out. We walked outside, mid-January, and while we saw snow and ice where plows had piled it up, the paths and sidewalks were clear, at most wet. So awesome, the January thaw. Plus it let me remove the garlands and unbreakable ornaments (ineptly named, since about 10% broke) from the little firs I planted in the fall.

Rick, where is the competition being held? Good luck to your daughter's team.

Good luck to kiddo and company, Rick!

Just in case you missed it on Twitter, Lil has homemade apple pie! :)

I'm supposed to be working. Someday, I just know someone will invent a magical thing that takes a scene from my head and puts it in the computer in exactly the right voice.

Later, y'all!

Thanks for the good luck wishes!

The competition is being held at the Gaylord Convention Center in Maryland. Kiddo's team just finished their second performance, and Kiddo is upset - she messed up on one of her Basket throws. (I'm not sure how you mess up when you're the one being thrown, though.) I was too busy taking pictures, zooming in and out to notice, so perhaps it wasn't a big deal. We'll see. We're on pins and needles, waiting for the awards.

Evening, Purgatory!

Welcome back, Shveta! :)

Hugs for everyone. Going to catch up.

Been working slowly but steadily on the Alice book all week--about to kill my first character, with the second shortly to follow. :D I'm not sure why I'm so happy about it, but a lot of people die in this book (and not just towards the end).

lily pie, this is true.

but he had no reason to be embarrassed
by a stuffed panda. i don't like it if it
is not deliberate embarrassing on my part.
haha

Hope kiddo did well, Rick. I'm sure she did. And probably just as happy that proud papa was there.

Congrats, Lil!

Xiao, you made it sound as if the panda was in tears! I still think so. Ha.

Had a lovely, unexpected day with OL - the day was unexpected, not the loveliness. :D We met for lunch in La Jolla and then walked around the beach and La Jolla cove, watched the sea lions - masses of them - and walked back. Maybe 4 miles? I don't know. It was great and we both love to walk. Caught up to a degree, digested lunch and saw a beautiful sunset when we got back to our cars. All in all a great afternoon.

OL reenergized me about my writing. I am writing, but I'm not focused on it the way I should be, because life is getting in the way, and I can't expect to have multiple books in publication if I'm not writing them. So true. :D

Oh, and welcome back Shveta! Always love to see you.

Evening Purgies!

Lily - congrats on finishing the novella!

Speaking of finishing, Kiddo's team took 1st place. Even better, they had the highest score in their Level of all age groups, earning the team a $1K award!

Lisa and Blue - no photo? Well, then I'll fill in for you with a pic of Kiddo #3.

Apologies to those I repped, who wanted to know what squicked me out. Now I've squicked you out too. :D

Oh yes, xiao, very romantic! I know, we should have taken photos. I did actually think of it in front of the sea lions, but then I was too caught up in how close tourists were getting to this large sea lion on the sand who could have taken a chunk out of any of them had he been so inclined. They seemed to have forgotten this was a wild animal.

Such a great photo, Rick! Wow, 1st! Congrats.
