You had your book beta read?
You had your query looked at?
The two rejections you got so far were canned ones?
How many pages of your MS did you send?
What is the meaning of life?
Why do I ask so many questions?
Haha, Butterfly girl! I'm actually loving that name
Ok, so let's see.
Yes, my book was beta read by a couple of people I trust. They also happen to be bloggers & book reviewers, I'm taking full advantage of my contacts
I had a few people look over my queries (I have a couple of versions right now after working on them since like January - sigh), they felt the queries were cool. I use them differently, meaning one version for just query and one version with the synopsis and sample pages.
Next time I'd be willing to hire an expert in writing them, lol, I've always had an issue with writing a 1 page long or 3 pages long thing. Meh.
For both query and synopsis I would have loved to post them up here in the Query Hell and etc places and you guys could have gotten a go at them, but the 50 posts thing makes it unrealistic so far. I'm not gonna spam around and shove posts just to make the 50 posts, and it may be like a month or something until I'd make the 50. What the hell, I have hundreds of agencies on my hit list, we'll have the chance to shred the stuff to pieces together sometime
I'm not sure what you mean by "canned" rejections? They were "standard forms" if that's what you mean, it's always easy to tell. The agencies that sent them also used the auto-response to confirm receipt of my email - really professional system and I really appreciate that. I wasn't exactly expecting them to be interested to be honest, my PNR is a bit out of the box so to speak, I mean it's not about vampires, werewolves or ghosts and these are the IT thing to be in romance, lol... My IT thing is something else. So I wasn't really having big hopes, the agent that will want to take my project on will be something of a rebel with an eye for new stuff rather then a part of the trend, you know?
That's not to say my stuff is so special that only special people will see its awesome worth, it's just a bit out of the box, like I am I guess. It will attract someone of the same vibe, you know?
I'm querying agents here, not publishers, so it's sort of easy to know what to send them. Most of them, well all I'm gonna query most likely, have really specific instructions on their submissions pages on their websites. So some of them don't even want pages, these 2 that R me so far were the "query only" types. Some ask for a synopsis and one chapter, or the first 50 pages, or the first 3 chapters, etc. The most I sent from the MS was the first 3 chapters, the least the 1st chapter. I'm more curious of the reactions I'll get from the agents to whom I sent pages too, I'll feel the R will be more to the point somehow, lol, you know?
The meaning of life? Well, I dunno about yours because I believe like life itself it goes on a case by case basis. The meaning of my life is to fulfill my dreams and have a very "eco-friendly" presence among people while I do, from an emotional, rational, behavioral and action-wise point of view. This is the meaning of my life. Perhaps to leave everyone I ever meet with a positive thought, feeling, state of mind, maybe even a smile. If I'll have managed that then the meaning of my life would have been checked, so to speak. What's the meaning of yours?
You ask so many questions because you have an inquisitive mind
That's the key to progress for human kind, you know? Inquisitive minds.
Pam Pam.
