I tap two holes into the dents of the coconut, drain the water for use, then put it on a baking sheet and into the oven at 350. I wait until cracks to appear then it pops right open and the coconut comes out neatly.

My newest favorite homemade candy is a scoop of creamy peanut butter, mix in enough coconut shreds to make it thick, then add in equal amount of chocolate chips as peanut butter and melt. Mix together. Add powdered sugar, just enough to take away the stickiness. Then plop into balls on tin foil or in a bowl and freeze. Once solid eat.
