Most of the ones I've looked at subbing to have either 3k or 5k top limits, so you've got quite a few choices

I must be looking at the wrong market then. Because on the publishers that do my "genre", i.e. Interracial Romance, I saw 5,000 words to 15,000 words for a short story.
I'm also trying to branch out and write other genres. I'm really looking at writing Fantasy and Paranormal/Supernatural.

You just need to write as many stories per week/month as you've planned to. A story could be as short as 140 characters (twitter fiction), or as long as 15,000 words (novelette)--or even longer if you really want to.

Of course, hanging out in the SFF cantina is a good idea as well. That way we can spread the word!

I think the monthly for me, as I'll be working on my first draft ms too. Will be good to have shorter projects to work on, and practice with subs!
