HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY, SUKI!!!:):D:)

Stealing for pretties!

She's going to create a fancy display for that, plus she's keeping one of the big posters from the signing in the window for a few more weeks with EVENT SOLD OUT written across it! :snoopy:

Congrats, Rosie!!!! Awesome!

9/11 always makes me sad. My family was very fortunate. My aunt worked at WT7 and made it out. However, my husband's friend did not. I can't help thinking about him, his family, and all those who lost people that day. Still seems surreal even after all these years. :(

OK, Purgie opinions needed!

I'm going to be doing a podcast on my website. I'll be showcasing authors, publishers, agents, editors and such in an effort to build some name recognition for when my own book comes out.

However, we are stalling at the name. We have it narrowed down somewhat, but I've got some conflicting opinions, so I want to see what the consensus is here. :)

M@er's M@gic & M@yhem (publisher likes this)
Myth, M@gic & M@yhem
M@gic & M@yhem with M@er
Myth, M@gic & M@er (podcast producer likes this)

Or am I missing the boat entirely and need to look at something else? We want to use my name for branding purposes.

So I got up early this morning because I'm behind on, oh, everything. Had to shoot a vlog singing a song that represents T3N for a truth or dare thing for the Lucky 13ers. Seriously, it's only the sleep deprivation that allowed this to happen. OMG, DON'T NOT SLEEP AND VLOG, GRETCHEN!!!!!

Dragonstar, depending on your genre, you might want to consider that there's already a group blog by several published urban fantasy authors called Magic & Mayhem, and they are gaining a following. Just something to consider. Personally, I like your last choice. :)

i write my synopsis in present third
as that was how i thought we were meant
to do. but i write my novels in past third.

i graduated from nyu in june 2000 and
that was when we moved from nyc. lived up
in east 90th right next to a C-Town (grocery
store) and the cute firefighters used to shop
there all the time. i can't help but think how many
of them are gone since that horrifying day.

i have to choose a book and passage to read
for my SF in SF event on saturday. reading for
15 minutes, definitely need to practice!

Hmmm...Mrs B I googled that and they didn't come up before. So back to the drawing board.

OK so now I need to start all over. LOL Suggestions?

WD, I was taught that all synopses, regardless of the voice and tense of the book, are in third person present tense. There's no dialogue, but the narrative voice used gives the reader the right feel. You don't list characters or go chapter by chapter (which would be so much easier) but identify your character's story arc--who is she, what's her problem, what does she do about it, what gets in her way, what does she do about that, and of course the conclusion. Secondary plots can be ignored or mentioned in passing.

A lot depends on whether you're writing a one-pager, three-to-five pages, or a full and detailed synopsis of, what, ten to twenty?

Suki, I think I self-distracted with the osage oranges. Happy book birthday!

Dragon, since your first name is pretty unique (so's my real first name), branding using it makes good sense. I like the idea of getting it in there early, as your publisher seems to, even though the flow of the one the podcast producer likes pleases me more. (Hard to believe it's not about pleasing me, isn't it?)

About all that's left to decide is which of the other three elements you want and in what order. M@gic is a given, obviously. Which is stronger, M@yhem or Myth? Or do you want to incorporate all three?

M@er's Myths and Magic <--I'm not crazy about the possessive form
M@er, M@gic, and Myth
M@er: M@gic, Myth, and M@yhem

So I guess my choice of the ones you offered is "None of the above."

Maryn, not at all helpful

LOL, yeah Maryn. Everything I googled, someone else was already using.

And yeah the M@gic has to be in there. I've used variation on mirrors, and such too.

My producer doesn't like the possessive either.

Blech, blech, blech.

Dragon, what about taking the line from your book's synopsis and tweaking?

Ma3r: Myth and M@gic.

Then subtitle: Not Your Mother's Fairy Tales.

I like Snappy's idea too, Dragon. And I love your first name.

The Harper change in ebook pricing went into effect today in response to the DoJ settlement and I've very pleased the ebook price of one of my books is now $2 less than it was before. Kids' ebooks don't sell all that well at 9.99, unless the author/book is very well known.

HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY, SUKI!!!:):D:)
Too pretty not to steal!

Rick, you realize if you used the actual personalities of purgatorians in you books, you'd have a bunch of high heel-wearing vegetarian navy guys who occassionally wear corsets and dye their hair interesting colors.
* scribbles notes furiously for Book 3 * Hmmm, the plot ideas are starting to line up with my preselected title for Book 3 - 50 Shades of Steel. :D

Sammy - Yay! for arm muscles!

KT and Blue - WOOT! for wordage!

Para - WOOT! for workage!

Para, Dragon, and Blond - Get some sleep!

Rosie - Congrats on the great event! Glad to hear it went well!

WOOHOO for B'con Purgy Takeover!

Dragon - I like the last one.

Fire the missiles! :D
NOTE to alcoholic XO - you are on an AIRCRAFT carrier, not a missile carrier. Your job is to transport Fury and her air wing within range, then launch AIRCRAFT!

9/11 - I had a pretty long post last year, since I was assigned to the Pentagon on 9/11 and the nose of Flight 77 ended up three floors beneath our office spaces in C-Ring, which were consumed in the fire afterwards. No one in my directory was killed, thankfully, but that wasn't the case for those in E and D Rings. My parting gift from my job at the Pentagon was a framed photo taken on 9/12, with the huge American flag draped down the side of the Pentagon. I think it's one of those photos that captures the nation's spirit and resolve, not only to rebuild (the Pentagon was fully rebuilt one year (to the day) later), but to hold those responsible accountable. The second part took 10 years, but we didn't rest until we tracked Bin Laden down and held him accountable.

Future terrorists, take note.
