I'm sure this will really sound stupid, but I have never purchased one of these before. The one I got is a Kroger house brand, hickory smoked, and fully cooked.

Can I serve it cold? I really don't want to fire up my MIL's almost 60 year old gas oven unless I really need to.

I can do turkeys, and I can do standing rib roast, but I have never made a ham.

"Fully-cooked" -- you can.

But it's awful when cold IMO (I can't stand cold ham). I recommend you tear the slices off and simmer them in a pan with pineapple juice and brown sugar if you can work off the stove-top.

Thanks guys. My MIL wanted ham for Easter (she used to do leg of lamb when she still cooked), and my SIL said to get the spiral cut. So we can just cut a few slices off at a time and heat them on the stove top. Brilliant!

You could have both. I actually like the ham when it's cold (or fried just a little).

You can microwave them if she has a microwave. Slice it up, put it in a casserole or dish with high sides, cover with some kind of sauce, lid or something to keep spattering down, then nuke away.

We did the 'heat some in the micro' method, and everything turned out fine.

If you have leftover ham you can makes some nice sandwiches using the ham, sliced tomatoes, and cheese (something like smoked Gouda works best). Heat sliced bread in the oven, spread with mustard, top with the ham, tomato, and cheese and put it back in the oven until the cheese is melted.

I have some of the ham, and the bone. The bone is going to become the basis of split pea soup. It's really too hot for soup, so I think I'll put it in the freezer till November, and then make soup.

Or find a needy dog to give it to. :)
