Hello all,

It's not my usual thing to join forums and introduce myself but they do say to do one thing each day you aren't comfortable with, so I guess I can check that off my list!

I've dreamed of being a published author since I was young and remember typing away at an old-school computer with orange font. It was fun but I didn't have the foggiest idea where to start and the idea died and stayed dead for many years until a few years ago when I revived it.

I have been poking through books on writing since then and have gone through the typical struggles most probably go through as a beginner. I think I am figuring out some things about what works for me and I am planning on this year being a good one in terms of having a first draft completed. Wish me luck!

Undoubtedly I will pick up some good tips here. I look forward to being part of this community. :)

Welcome!

When I feel uncomfortable, I curl up in the fetal position. You could try it, it sometimes helps.

Best of luck with your first draft!

Hello -

I am planning on writing epic fantasy for adults. My favorite writer is Robert Jordan if that kind of explains the type of story I would love to write. I enjoy getting lost in a colorful world with lots of interesting characters. I also *love* magic. If I could be anything I wanted to be it would be an Aes Sedai (of the green Ajah, of course!)

I've done my fair share of reading books on the craft, so I think I have a pretty good idea of how to go about things. Now what I am left with is facing my own fears of complete inadequacy. I am also a bit intimidated by the size of the project. Why couldn't I have a passion for writing short stories instead? I also tend to be very detail-oriented and pefectionist which is probably a horrible combination with this type of story (the perfectionist part anyway) And so the madness begins...

Hey question -

Is there a thread around here where someone can pop in now and again and give a status update on how their book is progressing? I think something like that might help to keep me on track.

I do know about NaNoWriMo but the challenge they have going right now is almost over and I don't think they will have anything again until July, so that doesn't help me now. I need something to keep me on task.

You can do it! Good luck. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask.
