I have two consecutive sentences that bridge two paragraphs, but I feel that the tense is.. off, although I believe it is correct. I just wanted to make sure.

Not the actual sentences, but it goes something like this:

I was adjusting to the reality of the situation.
The reality of the situation is..

This is fine?

I assume the rest is in past tense, like the first sentence, then the second one should be past tense as well.

Try combining the two sentences: "I was adjusting to the reality of the situation, which is/was. . ." It's obvious to me that "was" is the proper choice.

I think if it's someone's dialogue, it'd be right.
Ex: "I was just adjusting to the reality of the situation, I thought it wasn't how it is." I said. "The reality is-"

But if it's 1st person narrative outside of dialogue, Chris is right, it should be "was" for both.
