I never have yet either. Fifty is achievable for me. The thought of the amount of reading judges for award juries have to get through brings me out in a cold sweat.

(I was on three categories for the British Fantasy Awards last year but that was manageable - two months to read five fantasy novels and five anthologies. The third category was Best Film or TV Episode.)

My next five were done in more time than the first five, and take me through to ten in ten weeks.

6. Naked by Kevin Brooks (YA novel)
7. For Those Who Dream Monsters by Anna Taborska (collection)
8. The Inheritors by William Golding (novel)
9. Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma (YA novel)
10. The Turning by Tim Winton (collection)

I try to have at least one collection or anthology on the go, reading them a story or two at a time in between the novels, and in this period I completed two of them. Award shortlists are dominating my reading at the moment, with the BSFA Award shortlist announced (one novel done, one two thirds through, six more to go - mostly adult SF or fantasy but there is one MG title there, Frances Hardinge's Cuckoo Song) and the Carnegie Medal (which is of course all MG and YA) shortlist announced next week. The next in the William Golding reading project will be Pincher Martin.

Next five, and partly due to new-job training I've slowed down a bit. I did some reading of the BSFA Award shortlist and have started the Carnegie Medal shortlist, plus some short-fiction and non-fiction books I got to the end of.

11. The Moon King by Neil Williamson (novel)
12. The Moon Will Look Strange by Lynda E. Rucker (collection)
13. Alternate by K.S. Hart (novel, YA?, beta-read)
14. Contemporary Australian Cinema: An Introduction by Jonathan Rayner (non-fiction)
15. Cuckoo Song by Frances Hardinge (MG novel)

Next five, taking me up to twenty in nineteen weeks. Three more of the Carnegie Medal list, the third William Golding (next will be Free Fall) and a non-fiction book finished.

16. Apple and Rain by Sarah Crossan (MG novel)
17. Pincher Martin by William Golding (novel)
18. Buffalo Soldier by Tanya Landman (YA novel)
19. The Middle of Nowhere by Geraldine McCaughrean (MG novel)
20. Performance: A Biography of the Classic Sixties Film by Paul Buck (non-fiction)

Next, the last four Carnegie books, which hopefully I can finish before the Medal is awarded on 22 June - three from the library, one (the Patrick Ness) I bought so leaving that to last. I also have short-fiction collections and anthologies on the go, so they will be listed when I finish them.

Coming in late, but the last five:

17: Deadly, Unna? by Phillip Gwynne
18: Dog Boy by Eva Hornung
19: A Dance with Dragons: After the Feast by George RR Martin
20: The Prophecies (Quenarden #1) by Paula Vince
21: Sum Fourty Tales of the Afterlives by David Eagleman

At this rate, I'm going for a half marathon. I blame A Song of Ice and Fire series for slowing me down.
