Just because you don't see Shirley, it doesn't mean anything bad happened to Lavern. Quite the opposite. Shirley went on to marry Squiggy and have a great life raising 4 Squigglettes. Lavern, on the other hand...well, they made a documentary about her.

Laverne also married Meathead - which could be taken in many different directions.
