A few years ago, my dentist sent me to a specialist to see if they'd need to be removed. I have really good teeth, actually (which is only fair, since my vision sucks), but a smallish mouth. At that time, the specialist said they were fine and didn't need to be removed unless I had trouble flossing or whatever (which I don't do often, I'll confess -- no cavities, so far! I hope the soreness doesn't mean I have one now...).

Oh, well. Nevermind. Keep bouncing. I'm gonna go floss... :D

I'm 34, and mine never came in and now they're impacted in my jaw bone. Most of the time they don't bother me. They never gave me any issues until my late twenties, and just before then, another dentist told me that typically, if you don't have to have them out before you're thirty, then you probably won't ever.

But then I moved and got a new dentist, and they started hurting me a little. But I told him what the other dentist had said about if I can keep them until I'm thirty, then they're mine forever. He said, "It's not a battle of wills--it's not like if you hold on tight enough they'll just submit. If they hurt at all, they need to come out, no matter how old you are!"

But what does he know. I still have them, and aside from the crippling headaches, I'm just fine. :p

interesting about the teeths.

My 17yo's dentist wants him to have his wisdoms out now. After reading some worrisome things on line, I've decided to change him to another dentist and get a second opinion.

I didn't have mine out until they started to bother me--sometime during college, early 20s. They didn't do them at the same time, either. Bottoms were several years before the top.

So I'd bet you can have them bug you when you're 30. Best go get them checked out, anyway...

Geez. heza, I'm so sorry. I totally screwed up your post. I'm not even exactly sure what I did, but instead of quoting your post, as I intended, I ended up messing it all up beyond repair.

In my defense, I have an awful sinus infection, so my brain is fuzzy. Forgive me, please?

Bouncies for heza! :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump: :Jump:

... But now heza's entire post seems to have vanished, so we can't tell what the bouncies are for... Unless the post WAS just '...'?

Also, it be my birthday today. Quarter of a century old! :O

I'm catching up with this thread and having horrible flashbacks to one of the most painful experiences of my life. My mom is a nurse, and didn't think that dental assistants were qualified to administer anesthesia, so she wanted my teeth taken out while I was awake (thanks mom). I had, like, 18 shots of novacane in my mouth - the sides, the roof of my mouth, every-frickin'-where. Not only was I awake for the entire ordeal, but I still felt him drilling holes in my head. Four of them. I would flinch, and the doctor would have his assistant brace my head while he shouted at me, "Don't move!"

On a brighter note - Bald Eagles are nesting in my area! The birders are going crazy! There hasn't been a bald eagle on the SF Peninsula for 100 years. I'm taking my boys tomorrow to see if we can catch a glimpse.

heza had a great post about wisdom teeth which this silly mod screwed up and couldn't figure out how to fix. The bouncies were a peace offering/apology.

Happy birthday! :e2woo:

Okay, heza's post has been fixed now. I couldn't figure it out last night, because as I said, I was sick and not thinking clearly (which is the reason I hit the "edit" button instead of the "quote" button in the first place). Today, I'm still not feeling well, but my brain seems to be working a little better.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAVID!!!! I don't remember my 25th birthday. But I'm a New Year's baby, so I don't remember most of my birthdays.

Speaking of wisdom teeth - I shall share one of my dental horror stories. I have many.

We were in the military when I had my final wisdom tooth removed. It was "sit in the chair, get shot numerous times in the mouth, and then pull the thing with a pair of pliers.

I'm a total wuss when it comes to dentists, so I'm always jumpy, but this time I was climbing out of the chair! The idiot dentist is saying "sit down and be still. It can't hurt, because I had to give you so much Novocaine because you were being such a baby."

I'm grunting and my eyeballs are rolling around, and he suddenly says, "Oh, wait, I think I have your lip caught in the pliers. That must be where all the blood is coming from."

Before I left, I told him, "Okay, doc. Next time I come in, I'm gonna hold your (insert word for man parts here) in my hand. Since I can't talk with your hands in my mouth, you'll know when you hurt me by the extreme pain in your lower extremities."

Fortunately we were transferred before I had to go back.

Um, guys, you're not exactly comforting me with your dental horror stories! :scared:

I'm a Cinco de Mayo baby, so I have no idea what you mean. ;)

Sissy and Sheila, OWWWW......

Smish, hope you feel better.

Happy birthday, Dave!

Judy, my 18-year-old's dentist wants her to have her wisdom teeth out, too. He says it's easier now because the roots are still small. Guess I need to research this some more...?

I spend all weekend playing with my dog, and look what happens while I'm gone!

Seriously, I would never have noticed, so nothing to forgive. But at least it's fixed and everyone can revel in my amazingly vital post where I whine about my teeth. Obviously, that's important for posterity. ;)

Hope you're feeling better, Smish. (Thanks for fixing the post, even though you were sick and for all the bouncies. I'm going to horde them in towering piles that prevent me from leaving the house.)

Late Happy Birthday, Dave.

Awesome about the eagles, Sheila.

(Also, even though I don't have man parts, remind me to never make Sissy mad.)

Thanks, heza! I have a few days of antibiotics in my system, so I'm feeling much better now. Maybe I won't screw up anyone else's posts. :D

I had a very strange experience today. I have a handlebar mustache, (a very nice one I might add). I usually get compliments or something close to one, but today was different. I was waiting for my students while on a field trip when this middle aged local man walking by me points at my curls and says,
"Hey brah, you bettah cut those off, they're gang related."
I said, "what!?"
He said, "They're gang related." and walked off.

I wasn't sure what to make of that. I guess he was trying to help me, we were in a more lower income part of town. But I'm pretty sure there are not any gangs in Hawaii that sport handlebar mustaches.

Not the Hawaii you know... *shifty-eyed*

It's weird when random strangers are judgmental about random things there's no reason for them to be judgmental about.

A checker at the grocery store got hostile with me last night because I put Goji berries in my smoothies. (What is the issue? It says to, right on the package!)

that's weird, maybe the checker had a bad experience with a Goji when they were younger.

Okay, the world's gone nutters. When people get harrassed for wearing handlebars and putting berries in their smoothies...

I guess we need to send some folks back to kindergarten. Plop them down and have them listen to Tacky the Penguin and a few other good diversity-appreciation stories.

But I have to admit... I'm having fun picturing the gangs of wild mustachioed men roaming Hawaii's dark alleys...

Yay for used book sales! I spent the afternoon helping set one up in our cafeteria, so I got first dibs on a few. I picked up Every Little Bird that Sings, the Wednesday Wars, Time Cat and StarGirl. May pick up a few more tonight.

Yeah, I got them because I've seen them mentioned here with good reviews.
